Havana cafe in Old Ottawa South is worth the trek from city centre. The food is delicious, fresh and full of interesting tastes and textures. And the mojitos are among the best I have ever had. My favourite main course is the fish in a piquante sauce with cilantro, lime, and other flavours mingling beautifully. The meat lovers swear by the pulled pork. The accompanying plantain and salsa are also delicious. To finish, Chef-owner Oslade Guerra has concocted delicate desserts based on fruit that you would never guess are gluten free as well. The decor is exciting with red walls and riveting photos of Cuba. Hot Cuban music provides ambiance but is not overly loud (three stars for that alone). There is a private dining room downstairs where they sometimes have music and dancing. The Cafe is also open for lunch where you can have a Cuban sandwich and fantastic Cuban coffee. A neighbiurhood favourite, but worth searching out.
