“Can't go wrong!”
Reviewed October 6, 2010

We can only echo the numerous positive reviews for The Business Inn. At the price we paid ($107) this place simply cannot be beat for location, amenities and friendly service. When we arrived, we were given a complimentary upgrade to an executive suite: a huge space complete with sofa/TV area and a fully kitted kitchen/dining area with fridge/stove/microwave. Everything we could have wanted was right there in the room, including a comprehensive guest guide, which included trouble-shooting tips to try if we had trouble with the TV or computer or printer. The TV was huge, by the way, and the computer and printer were in the room and hooked up to free internet service. Extraordinary!

Every detail seemed to have been taken care of, from fluffy towels, tissues, hair products and hairdryer in the spacious bathroom, to ironing board and iron in the cupboard, and tea and coffee supplies plus cooking dishes and crockery in the kitchen area.

The location was fantastic: a 5-minute walk to the canal, a 10-minute walk to Parliament Hill, 15 minutes to the Byward Market, and slap bang in the midst of Elgin Street's most celebrated bar and restaurant area.

If you're looking for a great central base in Ottawa at amazing value, this place is spot on!

Chose the Business Inn due to the excellent reviews from everyone while dropping my child off for University. The room we had on the 8th floor (signature suite) was large, clean and had a balcony facing the street. Free wireless and a large flat screen TV with a full (yet dated) clean kitchen. From the street you wouldn't expect the inside to look so nice. You're right in the heart of several nice restaurants and pubs. Loved Big Daddy's, the Elgin Street Dinner even the Maclaren St. Pub which is in the building (decent pool tables and lots of TV's for any game)

The staff was great and since the kids where sleeping on the pull-out and reclining chair (by choice) we reached out to the staff for my blankets/pillows and the staff was fantastic about it.

Three things that you may want to be aware of 1) NO parking - I don't know if they rent to others or they just don't have enough space for the hotel but we checked in 10 mins after check-in and there wasn't any parking. 2) It seems they haven't fixed or reserve the 2nd elavator for the staff so if there is a crowd checking in (like we had) you may be walking. 3) I reached out to the hotel with e-mails and never got a response (to-date, 3 weeks later) so I found that to be in contrast to their good name.

Overall, great value for the money and 5 mins from residence at UOttawa.

I second all the good things other reviewers have said. One particular thing I appreciated was that all of the bedding, inside and out, is white so it was easy to verify that it was spotless.

This was my first stay at this hotel, and all things the others have reviewed are dead on.

We stayed in the Signature Suite - a full 1 bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. Our room was on the 9th floor.

Interesting amenities - free laundry, including detergent. I was able to run a load of clothes through over the weekend. There were about 4 full sets of washer/dryers for use and I was the only one using them at the time.

The free breakfast was nice - muffins, bagels, croissants, fresh fruit and yogurt, cereal, coffee and juice. It is really a good way to start your day without having to go to a restaurant. The staff were very clear that it was ok (and probably preferred) that you fill up your plate and take it to your room.

The TV was a very nice large flat screen, with high def channels available. There was a dvd player hooked up.

Computer and printer available, free wireless access if you have your own laptop.

There are so many restaurants within 2 blocks of this hotel, and all were nicely busy which indicates a good level of food/service.

I will have to write, however, that there was a definite cigarette smoke odor on our floor, even though it is no smoking. On the balcony was a large ash tray receptacle, so obviously people smoke on the balcony. I wouldn't be surprised if they smoked in the rooms, too. To be fair to the hotel I did not ask about this, so do not know if it is just this floor, or others. The smell was in the hallway too. That said, it will not prevent me from staying again.

For those families with students attending Ottawa U, this is the perfect answer for your visits. It is only about a 5 minute drive to the campus residences.

Stayed at the Business Inn for 2 nights and we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to an Executive suite. About 20 minutes from the airport. The YOW Transporter shuttle serves this hotel. $24 for 2 persons using the shuttle. Free sumptious breakfast is included. The suite is very large and comfortable. There is a large flat screen TV in room. Suite was very clean. Suite had a queen bed and a queen sofa. The kitchen has full-sized fridge, microwave stove and utensils. Iron and iron board were available. Even a steamer is included in the room. The bathroom is large with the usual amenities. Computer available in room with free internet access with confortable office chair and desk. That was a big plus. Dining table with 4 chairs. Full-sized dresser. The furnishings are very attractive. Had view of busy Elgin Street below. I liked everything about the room. The room was located on the 3rd floor, the same as the breakfast room. It was very convenient to take breakfast back to room. It felt like home. The hotel is located a short walk from the Rideau Canal and an easy walk along the canal to sights such as Parliament Hill, Byward Market and the Tourist Center. If in the Parliament Hill area, walking on Elgin Street takes you right to the hotel. Front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. I would definitley stay at this hotel again. Great experience.

We stayed a studio on the 3rd floor. Yes it was $107 per night but I've stayed in better hotels for that rate or less.
The good:
Availability of computer and free wireless
It has a kitchen

The bad:
Room is stuffy
Windows don't open
No balcony
Faced onto street across from a restaurant with rooftop patio - no privacy unless curtains drawn
Carpet stained
Bathroom very small
The continental breakfast - as awful as another reviewer stated. Fruit was packaged apple slices similar to McDonalds, or oranges. Muffins, waffles, bagels - nothing special. Eggs were pre-packaged.
Toner needed to be replaced on the printer - requested twice but still not done.
