Just had kind of an appalling lunch experience at Pressed on Gladstone.
Cute place upon arrival. Casual layout. Kind of kitschy. Order two salads, sweet potato chips and two drinks. Drinks and chips were good. Salads came and the majority of the leaves had small holes in them, so we sent them back as neither of us were comfortable eating greens that had obviously been enjoyed by some insects before we ordered it.
We were told uncategorically that the lettuce was organic, and that we should just accept it. "It grows in dirt in the ground" was one of a number the comments made. We asked for a refund, and were told that they wouldn't grant one if the only reason was that the greens had holes in them. We stood our ground, and the server continued to argue with us. I have been served alot of organic greens in various restaurants in town, and it's never included insect holes.
Ultimately we were given a refund because "we want you to leave here happy, and if that is the only way, then we'll give you a refund". I'm sorry, just because you gave me the money back for two salads that never should have been served, doesn't mean I left happy.
Perhaps it was a pitfall of ordering a salad in a sandwich joint, but beyond the state of the salad, the customer service was far below sub par. If I'm uncomfortable with what you're serving me, a lecture on how organic foods are grown is not going to make me want to eat it.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
