“Service is HORRIBLE!!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

It took so long to get served, well over an hour. Fine for a drink but would not come back to eat. The waitress was also taking orders of people who came after us and they got their food before us. It really was not a good experience.

“Best Pub in Ottawa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

This place is a staple for good food and drink. The atmosphere is friendly, the service is fantastic, and I've never left disappointed. Always impressed.

There are great daily specials and the BEST wings in town. I recommend Tuesday wing night.

“Really good food - not pub food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

What a surprise this restaurant was. Looked like a pub but was really fine restaurant with prices closer to pub prices. They advertise local meats and cheese which was great but really the food was what stood out. Our meal was original and fantastic. The salads that came with the meal were great. If you want pub food the fries are a cut above the usual pub fries. You can even have the best of both worlds half salad/half fries at no extra charge. What a concept! Service was a bit slow but was worth the extra few minutes for the quality.

“Far beyond your average pub fare”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

I really can't see fit to give anything less than 5 stars for this place, given that they are technically just a "pub". The atmosphere is very pleasant, welcoming and intimate with a lot of dark wood but no "dark spots". TV coverage is very good if you want to watch a game of some kind. The menu appears to be typical pub-grub favorites, but with a few upscale choices thrown in (beef brisket, roast chicken, daily fish and risotto specials).

I had a Reuben ($15) and my friend took the fish n' chips (regularly about $14 but on special for $10). Always a little leery of the possibility of rubbery, mass-produced smoked meat when I order a Reuben in a pub, imagine my surprise when I bit into what was obviously homemade, tender, spicy and nicely crusted meat and top-notch rye. Fries are fresh, crispy and tasty. My friend's fish and chips was about as good as you can get, with crispy batter and tasty homemade tartar sauce.

Although full, I couldn't say no to dessert, and I was not disappointed. A strawberry-pineapple creme-brulée, weird as it may sound, was both rich and refreshing and met the creme-brulée requirements (creamy "creme", crunchy "brulée") very capably.

Well worth the trip!

“Beware of the giant ribs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

In the mood for a new restaurant, dropped into Churchill's on a Tuesday night and had a very satisfactory experience.

Looks like the general increase in expectations of Ottawa foodies is influencing places like Churchills, given that they're trumpeting the use of local meat and cheese in their dishes.

My dining companion had the fish and chips, and found it very good, especially the touch of spice in the tartar sauce. She wasn't a fan of the coleslaw, however.

I ordered a half-rack of ribs with chips, and was somewhat stunned to have a Fred Flintstone-worthy rack delivered quite speedily to the table. The ribs were well cooked, tasty, with a nice smokiness delivered courtesy of the onsite smoker. They were tender, but still had texture. I managed to get through them, but it was a big rack of ribs. Way too full for desserts.

Was surprised to see Pabst Blue Ribbon listed as a domestic draft on the menu, and disappointed to find out they had no Creemore. Had a pint of Sleeman's, which was fine. I also liked the fact that the big-screen TV across from our booth was dark.

Would be an easy choice to go back to eat or drink again.
