“Waste of time.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2011

Very deceiving boat ride! Instead of giving detailed historical comments on the canal and the city, we learn about how much a condo is worth on the Rideau Canal and other useless information. The tour guide would acknowledge that his favourite part of the canal ride is where he had nothing to say. I strongly suggest that you read a good travel guide instead, and then rent a bicycle to ride along the canal, on the bike path to Dow Lake from the Chateau Laurier.

“Noisy and wearing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2011

I hope that this was the disappointment of our trip to Canada. The boat was noisy, the commentary truly dreadful and I couldn't wait to get off. Worst use of $21 that I could think of.

“Terrific Ottawa River tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2011

This must-see tour of the Ottawa river was an excellent value; roughly $20 for adults and free for children under 5. The tour is about 1.5 hours, and very nicely reviews the major buildings and landmarks along the Ottawa river (including some historical context).

The boat is double-decker, with a canopy covering the top level. This is a big plus as Ottawa weather can turn from perfectly sunny to rainy without any warning. This boat has lots of open air space, and plenty of shelter. There are two bathrooms on the enclosed lower level, along with a licensed snack bar & popsicle fridge.

The narration was very nice and accurate, although it lacked personality and could have been more engaging. The sound system was far better than most, and we could hear very clearly even with engines on and wind blowing. Narration was perfectly bilingual.

The tour covers Chaudiere to Edinburgh Canoe Club east of Ottawa, and into the Gatineau river up to Lady Aberdeen bridge, as well as touching the Rideau falls (literally).

Would highly recommend it for both tourists and locals alike.

“Informative and humorous - Rideau Canal Boat Ride”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2011

$19 CAD for 1.25 hours was not only a bargain compared to other providers, Patrick - our tour guide constantly provided both information about the Rideau Canal and in a humorous manner switching back and forth between English and French. Upon boarding, Patrick told us it was the boat to Kingston (125 miles away!); pointed out a jogger running along the canal was our bodyguard (ha!) and ended letting us know the boat driver was going to sing a Madonna selection (not!). He never ended with his humor while telling us about the history of the canal that opened in 1832 and was initially built as a precaution for a potential invasion by the USA (thank goodness Canada and America are friends nowadays and have had the longest undefended border in the world for a very long time).

The Rideau Canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is still operational today along the entire length from Ottawa to Lake Ontario with 45 locks (the boat does not go thru any locks but is next to the locks starting at the Ottawa River).

I would strongly recommend this tour operator to anyone desiring an informative and humorous tour. Patrick told us early on that bottled water was available for sale; $1 for one bottle, $2 for 2 bottles, $3 for 3 bottles, $4 for 4 bottles and $25 for 5 bottles!!!

“Double Booking Disaster”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2011

We took friends to Ottawa to celebrate their birthdays on Saturday afternoon this passed weekend. As a gift to them we bought tickets to take them on the boat cruise up the Ottawa River that leaves from the locks... we have done this before and loved it! We bought 4 tickets at 4:30 pm and were told to be at the boarding area by 7:10 pm ( the boat departs at 7:30pm). Unfortunately our dinner took a little longer than expected, because it was the long weekend. When we arrived at the boarding gate one of Paul's Boat Cruise staff told us we were too late and the boat was full !!!! We then learned that they had resold our tickets .... WHO DOES THAT?!! What a bad impression Paul's Boat LInes gives of our Country's capital !!! To top that, the guy was less than sympathetic about it .... but he did give us our money back. I just think that the whole thing would have been avoidable if they had been honest with us from the very beginning by telling us " If you don't get to the boarding area by 7:10pm we will resell your seats! " Very bad customer service / business relations !!!!
