Travelodge Ottawa West

I stayed here recently while on an extended business trip to Canada's national capital. The hotel had many problems: the facility itself is probably overdue for a major renovation (particularly the tower, and the parking garage); the bed was soft and lumpy; the carpet was badly stained and needed replacing; the service was confused and sometimes grumpy; and there was no coffee-shop... just a mediocre full restaurant.

There is a very nice wave pool for the younger crowd, and this seems to be the hotel's major attraction -- so there were loads of kids running around.

We just returned from 2 nights at the Travelodge Ottawa West Hotel and we were very impressed.

We travel to Ottawa at least once a year with our 2 kids (age 6 and 8). We usually stay downtown at the higher end hotels like the Westin or the Delta.
However, having heard that this hotel features an indoor water park, we decided to try it. The waterpark is alot of fun and very clean. There is a wave pool and a huge waterslide.

The hotel room we had was newly renovated with one king sized bed and a double sofabed for the kids.

The room was large, very clean and comfortable and included a mini fridge and microwave oven.
There is one restaurant in the hotel which serves a very tasty and well priced breakfast buffet.

There is also plenty of free parking.

The hotel is not downtown but it is only a 10 minute drive to all central Ottawa attractions. However, if you are travelling without a car I would recommend staying downtown.
If you are travelling with small children and have a car this hotel is alot of fun and a great bargain.

I found the rooms to be way too small and there really wasn't a lot of options for a family of 5. Our children are too young to have a room by themselves, so one had to sleep on an air mattress just because we thought the pool are was worth it. The posted hours for the pool were always incorrect ( they even had printed off March Break hours with the specific dates), causing a lot of diappointent. The "lifeguards" were a joke, letting on several occasions over 25 people in a very small hot tub with no room to move!! (We have pictures!!). They didn't maintain the pool properly either, our daughter ended up with a rash on her legs and sure enough, 2 hours later, they closed the wave pool down for the rest of the night ( 6 hours early), because of a "chemical imbalance" probalby due to the insane amount of people in the poorly managed pool area. The parking area had potholes almost as large as the wading pool inside and could have used a lifeguard as well!! Considering the selling feature is the wave pool, we left very dissapointed and will not ever return!!

The hotel is fine with large clean rooms, and all the facilities I expected.
The Hotel is easy to find, being located just off Highway 417, however it is some distance from the Centre. It is definitely not walkable, and I would recommend using the Bus which stops outside the hotel to get to there.
There is a wavepool which is a hit with younger Children, however it is only 1.2 metres deep at it's deepest, and then only in the pool's final 5 metres, so is of little use to anybody who wants to go Swimming.
For meals there is a very good restaurant about 100 yds across the road, which sells the usual range of meals ie Pizza, pasta, steaks etc which i would recommend.

We just returned from a family trip to Ottawa and we really enjoyed our stay at the Travelodge Hotel. We have two children aged 5 and 2 and they absolutely LOVED the wave pool and the little wading pool. My son would of stayed there all day! Our room was very clean and spacious and we had a microwave and fridge and extra sink/counter in the room. The only thing it could of used was a little table and chairs to eat at, but otherwise it was great. Although it is not downtown it is a short drive away and the parking is free so that more than makes up for it. This is a perfect family hotel and we would definately stay there again on our next trip to Ottawa.

My girlfriend and I recently went on a trip to Ottawa. Upon reviewing this website, Travelocity and a few others, we chose the Travelodge. It seemed well reviewed and pretty cheap. But there were a few things promoted here that just weren’t true. First off, the executive floor. What a waste. As advertised there is an executive lounge with Internet access, this was locked and we were told had not been used in over a year. Each room is supposed to have a sofa, ours did not. The balcony doors would not open either, seems the balconies were being repaired; they were in pretty sorry shape. The write-ups mention a Valet, they obviously had no Valet. One review we read mentioned a continental breakfast [not this site] the breakfast was an additional charge. The room came with one robe, even though they were aware probably two weeks in advance that two people would be occupying the room. There were no slippers anywhere to be found. The “Zen lounge” off of the oriental lounge, was drained of water, and taped off with yellow caution tape.
The hotel was not completely horrible, it was clean and the floor we were on was very quite, even though the hotel was almost entirely booked. The street they are situated on, called “Carling Ave” is central to almost everything. All the major streets leading downtown and to the Airport seem to diverge from it. All the staff was pretty friendly.

Since my one experience with a Travelodge years ago was pretty bad, we were not prepared for the excellent accommodations and service. Our room was spacious and had a sofa and easy chair, plus a mini-kitchen.
We spent 5 days there for a conference, so our food was included, which was also excellent. My only warning: if you don't have children, you probably don't want to be there during March break. It's a destination for families since it has a large indoor waterpark (with real palm trees, yet!), and children played hockey in our hall all day and evening. Although their television is wired to provide internet service (I'd never seen this before) it was not operational while we were there.
