“Great location, warm staff & tons of space”
Reviewed August 8, 2006

Residence Inn's are always a hit; Marriott's got the formula right. And this hotel is one of their standouts. The property is in an older building, but don't let little idiosyncrasies like the fourth floor lobby or smaller elevator stop you. Why? For one thing, the suites are over-sized, even by Residence Inn standards. What a great place for our family of four to spread out. Also, as a constant business traveler, I always love the extra room to stretch and walk around.

The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had at a Marriott. No formula scrambled eggs here, these are the real thing, served with sausage, beans, tortillas, potatoes, make-your-own waffles, and all the normal bagels, juices, etc.

Two grocery stores are nearby (just a 2 or 3 blocks away), along with quite a few restaurant choices. But the real winner is location, location, location. Walk about 4 blocks and you are at Parliment Hill. The summer of 2006 has a light and sound show each night at 9 and 10 PM, lighting up the entire Parliment Center building. It is free and dazzling. Nearby are the fully functional locks that really started it all for Ottawa, still manned by hand, and also within an easy walk.

This is a great city, and like this hotel it possess a subdued and very polite personality.

i booked in the residence inn because i thought it had the marriott service and because of its perfect location.first, the check -in is easy and the front desk staff are very friendly, the parking is small and expensive but its the only place to park beside the hotel, the hotel is close to the parliament hill, the rideau canal, elgin street;not close to the supreme court and the convention centre.second, the suite is spacious and the bathroom is huge. third, the snack is simple but good for a snack and the breakfast is very nice and convencing ,as for the service its the marriott excellent service. I recommend this hotel to all families.

Good choice for an appartment-type stay in a hotel environment. Huge rooms, clean, convenient location, good service. Negative: the decor of the rooms is rather bland (nicer at the Holiday Inn nearby). A word of caution: the hotel seems to be frequently full, and some extras (like adapters for connecting DVD players) in short supply. Overall, good option.

I chose the Residence Inn as a result of some good referrals, as an alternative to my usual Ottawa haunt, Les Suites, which is overdue for renovation. I was pleasantly surpised. The room was clean and spacious, with nice touches: table set with wine glasses and linen, room very clean and well maintained. The kitchenette was a little tight but the bathroom was huge, with whirlpool tub, and the bedroom amazingly spacious. I had a corner unit, with a comfortable king bed and a wide expanse of windows. A big contrast with the small dark bedrooms at the Albert at Bay Suites. If security is a big concern be aware that the reception is on the fourth floor and visitors can walk into an elevator without being seen by any staff. (A concierge station in the lobby was rarely staffed.) I never saw the pool, as it was under renovation during my stay. Most surpising for a suite hotel, there is a daily free hot breakfast (simple but adequate) and every evening there are hot snacks or a full meal free. There is also a coffee shop and flower shop on site. Service was friendly. There is no business centre, just one computer on a desk in an open area off reception. Not far from Rideau Centre and downtown, a few blocks to Byward Market and Parliament. Good value.

What we like Residence Inn Ottawa down is the hotel location. This hotel is just a short walk from museums, National Gallery, National Arts Centre, Parliament Hill, restaurants, shopping centre (i.e., Rideau Centre), Confederation Park (where Winterlude scupture is located), Byward market and Ottawa Public Libary. We stayed in two bedroom suite for a family of 4. We had no problems finding restaurants near the hotel within walking distance. Restaurants that we went to and would like to recommend to you are: Royal Oak (188 Bank Street), Beckta Dining & Wine (226 Nepean Street - be warned that this restaurant is very expensive), Genji Japanese Restaurant (175 Lisgar Street, very delicious food), Le Café (inside National Arts Centre - very nice and peaceful ambience).

Stayed at the Residence Inn at ottawa recently following reading comments made over the last few months. However, was not really impressed with our stay. Main problems were very noisy air conditioning outlets on adjacent roof areas. which kept you awake at night. Had our original room changed, but staff were reluctant and unhelpful in doing so, also not a great improvement.Breakfast although complimentary was very basic and not very well prepared.
Main advantage of this Hotel is it's position as it is quite central.

This hotel was great! My price was discounted, so I have no idea what their regular prices are like, but, that aside, I absolutely *loved* it.

Room was huge - 14th floor, great view of the city. I love the kitchenette. Even though I was staying just 12 hours, it was my favourite part of the room! Also loved the kitchen table - made it feel very cozy. Definitely exudes its home away from home brand image. I would certainly choose it for a stay of any length - but they are perfectly equipped for weeks - months long stays.

The 3 best parts of my stay were:

3. Popcorn in the room. Complimentary microwave popcorn in room for the first night. It even had their logo on it. Very impressive. Great for parents travelling with kids who want snacks!

2. The bed. I had heard about how comfortable their beds were...but this was amazing. I had great plans of reading in bed, going swimming, etc. But instead I slept. Slept and slept. I became one with that mattress.

1. The breakfast. Nowhere else will you find a complimentary HOT breakfast each morning - I'm sure of it. It is buffet style and includes all the fixins.

STAY HERE!

The staff were also very friendly. Greeting everyone warmly and meaning it. Offering help with tea choice, etc. at the breakfast. Also made great chit chat while checking in. Loved it all!

Parking fee is reasonable - only $13 daily though your car has to be out by 5 pm which is a downer.

It is a bit oddly situated - one must do a lot of maneuvering before getting into ones room - but hey...absolutely worth it.

Location is amazing - 5 minute walk from Rideau Centre (mall), Parliament Buildings...everything!!

Stay there!!!!
