Had a nice time. They were working on the elevator but we knew this and allowed time. We were in no hurry. Our room was nice and clean. I enjoyed eating and having drinks in their restaurant. Simple hotel! Jamie at the front desk was very nice.

the hotel has a good location, if you don't mind walking for about 20 minutes to the Parliament Hill. it's quite old but it's okay 'coz it's very affordable and i loved the sleep number bed! free wifi was great. the lady at the front desk was very nice. the one thing i hated during my stay was the parking at the basement. it was horrible. dark, dirty & creepy...and they charge $18 for that. the first time we got to the parking, i was so disappointed & regretted booking there. but when i saw the room, it was a relief. still, the parking lot is terrible.

A convenient location - It's a couple of blocks from right downtown, but still walkable to everything -and with no hills. My room was good - quiet because it was far away from the elevators on a higher floor (there are 11 stories) , and the ice machine which was just outside my room was out of order, but that was actually a good thing for sleeping! . The room did have one of the dial-an-number bed which were noisy when adjusting but were fine otherwise. Everything was clean and in good repair. The staff were professional, and available when you needed to ask them anything. The restaurant on-site is good(Mexican cuisine mostly, but fresh and a bit more modern take on it).
You should know that the airport shuttle company has gone out of business, It was is approximately $30.00 Canadian to take a cab in from the airport, unless you want to use local transit. Not the hotel's fault, but I'm glad that I discovered this before I arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about the hotel. It is a shame the shuttle company went out of business however this may only be temporary, keep your fingers crossed.

I stayed here with my children and husband and thought it was as decent hotel. Clean and quiet. Clean towels as long as you put the old ones on the floor. The rooms are a bit tight (between the beds and desk) but we didn't spend too much time in the room anyway. The locations is great. A nice 10 min walk to parliament and probably 20 mins to Byward market. This hotel is right beside the famous GLUE PUB and WITCHY scones. We didn't go to those places though. We ate at Byward and at a local pub (forgot name). Lots of smokers in Ottawa so be prepared for that. You can't walk two feet outside without being smothered with smokers. But the hotel was nice. No complaints.

We stayed at this hotel for an overnight recently and had a great time. When we checked in, our room was not working (the door key was not unlocking), so maintence changed our room quickly and we were set for the rest of the trip. The sleep number beds are so comfy! Parking can be tricky, but the on-street weekend parking is free, and there is a garage under the hotel and a lot across from it. It is minutes from downtime, and a bus stop is right outside for easy access to local areas! Great time overall! Would stay again.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel with our two young children in one room, while our 2 friends stayed in another. Both groups purchased the "Shades of Summer" package (stay 2 nights get the second night 50% off and get a $24 credit for breakfast at the hotel restaurant).

LOCATION:
As the name of the hotel suggests, the hotel is conveniently located near Parliament Hill, a comfortable walk to the Byward Market, and very close to a Tim Horton's, Starbucks, and convenience store if you need a quick caffeine fix or forgot some essentials. The hotel is pretty well at the western most edge of the downtown core. At the time of our stay, there was quite a bit of construction going on on Queen Street, but nothing so grand that disturbed our stay.

SERVICE & ROOMS:
Checking in was quick and easy and we received our keys for room 221, while our friends received their key for room 910, both of which were supposed to be with 2 queen beds. When we exited the elevator on the second floor, we were met with an overwhelming stench of old cigarettes and strong cleaning agents. I believe the hotel used to be a smoking hotel and was converted to non-smoking, but they clearly haven't changed the carpeting or properly deodorized the second floor. When our friends came down from their room, they noted that the 9th floor did not have this smell and the second floor odor was quite overwhelming.

Our friends received the correct room type; however, our room clearly had 2 double beds (you could tell not just from eyeballing the bed, but also because the remote for adjusting the comfort level of the bed did not have the "left" and "right" options, which is only available in queen beds and higher, not for double beds). When we informed the front desk of the incorrect bed size, the clerk immediately apologized and stated that the computer lists the room as 2 queens; he immediately offered to move us to a different room on a higher floor. We were then given keys to room 1010, which did in fact have 2 queen beds. The hallway on the 9th and 10th floors did not have any smoke odor and was distinctly cleaner than the 2nd floor. The view from both 910 and 1010 is of the back alley of the hotel, which overlooks a number of garbage bins. Although we could vaguely hear a garbage truck picking up the bins one morning it was barely audible; it might be a problem on the lower floors though.

The rooms are adequate, but on the small side (just enough room to tightly fit the two beds, desk and tv unit). We don't tend to watch television during our trips, but if you care about that sort of thing, you should know that the tvs are mid-size CRTs with limited channels. The carpets in room 221 had a number of nondescript dried stains and were very worn. The carpets in room 1010 appeared newer and the room generally cleaner. The bathroom was relatively clean, though I wouldn't have used the shower without the provided anti-slip mat as the anti-slip pads in the tub were all dark gray from use. The beds were comfortable and fresh.

Check out was also quick and easy. The front desk clerk at checkout (Upul) was one of the most pleasant we`ve met He was polite, courteous, helpful and was very kind to the kids.

RESTAURANT:
The hotel's restaurant (The Southern Cross) provided a good quality breakfast and a wide variety of choices for the family. We also wound up having dinner at the same restaurant one evening for convenience. The dinner menu also had a broad variety of choices (mostly Tex-Mex style). We all ordered something different from the menu and aside from one burnt item, we were all satisfied with the reasonably priced meal.

PARKING:
Parking spots in the underground lot were a little tight for our friend's SUV, but our sedan fit okay. Based on the fact that some cars were doubleparked, it seems that there are more patrons than spots available. Parking at the time of our stay was around $18.00 per day, which seemed to be about par for the downtown area.

Overall, the hotel is convenient and adequate if you can get a good packaged deal, but it's better suited for a business stay than for families.

I stayed here for one night in August 2011 for a business meeting. When I arribved in the evening I was given a room which was pretty close to the elevator. Since I wanted to sleep quietly I went back downstairs and was given quickly another room without questions or discussions.

The rooms are clean and very nice. Good bed, good bathroom. Next to that there is free wifi in the lobby and free internet through cable in the room. I had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs which was speedy and good as well.

Would go back.
