I stayed here with my husband for 3 nights. We booked our room on Priceline so we didn't know where we were staying until after. What a great surprise! The downtown location is ideal for getting around the city quickly and easily with lots of easily accessible services. The Rideau Centre mall is right across the street and has all the shops you could want including a Shopper's Drug Mart and an LCBO. The heart of the Byward Market is 2 minutes away with options for dozens of restaurants.

Our room was small but comfortable. The European design and style is typical of the Novotels I've stayed in both in the UK and France. The "free wi-fi" is a joke because it's signal strength is good but the bandwidth is terrible. I eventually realized there is an ethernet dataport on the desk and that did me fine for the rest of the trip. The room is equipped with a minibar which is useless if you are hoping for a fridge to keep personal food items because it's stocked full of $5.00 candy bars and beer. The one really nice touch, which all hotels should have, was a small recycling bin to put bottles and cans and paper.

The lobby is a shambles under the construction but since I paid for a room and not the lobby, I didn't care at all. The parking is underground and although not cheap was convenient and safe.

I'd certainly return to this hotel if I come back to Ottawa.

The hotel has a great location just south of the Byward Market in the heart of Downtown Ottawa and is well within walking distance of all activities a tourist would like to see and do. When we stayed the Hotel was undergoing a small bit of construction but it was limited to the lobby and it was not at all intrusive. However after they have finished the hotel should maintain the rooms as our bathroom needed some touch-ups and grouting. The hotel pool and spa were clean and well maintained, if a bit loud due to the number of children present. The room service menu was a bit small, but it was well priced with the local restaurants of the vicinity. Housekeeping were very efficient and the common areas were very clean. I would certainly stay at this hotel again when visiting Ottawa.

The hotel is under construction frm 8am - 3pm. .Rooms are small but have wireless internet, minibar, and an room safe large enough for a laptop and the furniture is very very nice in the rooms that have been renovated. Be careful getting out of the tub, there are no grab bars and the tub and floor can be very slippery. Bed is very confortable. Very small closets but the room has an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and Flat screen TVs with English and French stations. There is a pool, sauna and small workout room on the 5th floor. There is also an outdoor garden and sitting area on the 5th floor. Only 1 internet computer in the lobby. Full hot breakfast buffet is very good. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. The hotel staff is very nice, efficient and helpful with directions and recommendations for restaurants and if you call them there are summer specials for hotel stays with parking, dinners, etc. that may include event tickets. The hotel is located 1 block from Byward Market Mall and the Byward Market that has over 400 vendors, restaurants, shops, outdoor cafes, etc. You can walk to the Parliament, the Rideau Canal, etc. There is a shuttle fro the airport for about $18 each (tickets in airport), bus drops you off about a block from the hotel for $2.85 (exact change), Cab ride runs about $36. Lots to do in this very quiet area. Everyone bikes or takes public transportation and there are so many places along the canal to walk, etc.

We stayed here July 2009. Novotel Ottawa was a lovely hotel, we received a really warm welcome, the hotel was close enough to everything for us, they have free internet access in the lobby for guests, the hotel was clean and comfortable which was all we were aiming for, parking was quite reasonable as well. Overall we were happy with our stay in the Novotel Ottawa, I would recommend it.

This hotel is in a great location because it is in the east side of the Rideau Canal on the same side as the Byward Market. Most Ottawa hotels are west of the Canal and somewhat removed from the main tourist area. While small, the rooms are sleek and modern and use their space very efficiently. The bathroom was large and bright with large (by hotel standards) bottles of conditioning shampoo and shower gel and bar soap. I also appreciated the hand held shower fixture.
We got a great deal on Expedia at only $89/night and this hotel allows children to eat free at breakfast. The restaurant's breakfast menu is very competitively priced and I would eat there again.
I would definitely consider staying here again.

When our family traveled in Europe last year we chose novotel as our hotel of choice at every location... Now planning a tour of Canada we thought to choose it again due to our wonderful experience abroad.... Boy were we wrong!! All novotel are truly NOT created equal... The room was dirty, the housekeeping staff terrible... All they do is fix the sheets and replace the towels...there was a rolled up tissue from the beginning to the end of our stay.... Bugs!!! And they're being renovated, so everyday we woke up to the incessant sound of grinding and drilling!!! Would totally never stay in novotel again, especially in north America. We are supposed to be in Montreal in a few days and I am sooooo scared because we chose novotel over there as well!!! We boooked in advance so we cannot cancel our reservation:((... Wish us luck... Beleive me we need it:((

Hotel was in a great location for sightseeing - an easy walk to the Rideau Canal, Byward Market, National Gallery, and Museum of Civilisation. Also a stones throw to the Rideau Centre where we picked up some needed winter clothing! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.
