Researched all Ottawa hotel options and decided on the Courtyard. Pleased with the choice. We were there for three nights over Thanksgiving weekend. Hotel is in incredible location, especially if you are interesed in the urban atmosphere of the Byward area. We could walk absolutely everywhere - Parliament, National Gallery, and all of the restaurants and shops of the Byward Market area were within seconds. Location was a primary consideration for us and this hotel definitely excelled in this area.

We had a car and the parking situation was ideal as well. Rate was reasonable (CAD$9.50 per night) and the hotel offered no less than three parking location choices - outside in an open lot, downstairs (covered), and downstairs indoor (heated). Between the three choices, there were always many spots and space was not the issue I read about at other Ottawa hotels.

The room was comfortable, exactly the same as other Courtyard properities across North America. We had requested an interior room due to the noise concerns posted on this website but were given an outside room nonetheless. We were on the North (ie York Street) side and you could definitely hear club music at night. However, everything seems to shut down at 2 AM. I am very averse to noise but it was tolerable, especially if you turned the fan on. I would recommend though if you don't like noise, to insist on an interior room. Staff was otherwise helpful and friendly.

The hotel also featured a beautiful indoor pool which was a surprise. There was also a miniscule fitness center and a nice lobby lounge.

Overall, I recommend this hotel due to its fantastic central location and competitive rates. Room comfort and parking were also strengths. Only the Chateau Laurier and Westin seemed to have a better location but of course, both were far more expensive.

The hotel is just next to Byward Market and within walking distance of downtown, Rideau Canal, Parliament, and the Museum of Civilization. Self parking is relatively cheap ($10 /day) with in and out privileges. Beware of the one way streets in the downtown area and restricted lanes. While the area is not residential, we felt safe enough to go out at night as there are many people dining and clubbing in the area.

The room was nice with comfortable beds. The bathroom could use a new coat of paint and recaulking as there was mold and mildew around the soap dish. The in-room wireless network worked well.

However, we got a room facing Dalhousie St. which is travelled by cruisers on weeknights including Tuesday to Thursday. The motorcyclists intentionally rev their bikes when passing by the hotel. While other reviewers have made the same comment, it would behoove management to put sound proof windows on rooms facing the two streets.

stayed here for about 4 nights in mid august - great location - right in the market near all the bars and restaurants - best to ask for a room on dalhousie or else a courtyard room as the other side of the hotel overlooks some late bars etc - rooms were fine - clean etc - air con a bit loud - really only slept there so can't comment on the food/service - but staff were friendly when called upon - definately a place to stay if you are going to be exploring/partying etc

  • Disliked — loud air con, and the windows didn't open in my room

Stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of July. Perfect location right in the byward market. Close to all the attractions . Rooms fairly large (by comparison with european hotels) and very clean. Comfy bed and convenient parking (now 9.5 CAD / day). (indoor and outdoor). Staff all very helpful
Didn't find it noisy at all - would definitely recommend.
Admittedly it doesn't have a lot of character - pretty impersonal in fact ; but you don't stay in these type of places for character - just ideal central location.

Friendly hotel in a great location but the bars across the street were noisy in our 3rd floor room. Avoid these rooms during patio season, unless you are a nighthawk.
