“Classy, as ever....”

Timeless and graceful elegance. Just a massive pleasure to stay here again. Nothing changes, and hopefully it never will. The Chateau is the Chateau, a warm welcome inside however cold the weather outside!

We had a wonderful time at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier . We stayed in a beautiful room which had a view of the parliment buildings from our balcony. We watched the changing of the guard evey afternoon right from our room. The town of Ottawa is wonderful. We walked everywhere we went. There was lots to see and do. There was a people street called Sparks street that was full of little shops and places to eat. The Byward marketplace is a must see. They have French inspired fresh pastries, meats, bread, cheese, produce, ect. in an open aired market. We also rode on a carriage with horses around the town. No matter where we went everyone knew of the hotel we were staying at and told us how lucky we were to stay there. It looks like a castle! Absolutely beautiful! Great Trip =)

Room Tip: Get a room facing parliment hill

Although its interior is something of a gothic monstrosity, there is still nothing like the Chateau Laurier for a stay in Ottawa. The sense of past history and the inkling that perhaps present history is being made over breakfast at Wilfred's more than compensate for the small, outdated rooms with paper-thin walls. Service is excellent. Overall, simply impressive and a great Canadian tradition.

There are many things for which to commend the Chateau Laurier. Of these, for me, it's service, service and service.

From the personalized greeting from room service staff to the securing of a near last minute personal training reservation at the health centre, it was all first class. And, before I forget, I also have to offer special compliments to the woman who served our conference breakfasts and lunches on the 1st floor. She was amazingly attentive and made me feel like a special, valued guest. I also note that the chefs did a great job of accommodating me and my allergies (no wheat, dairy or soy), but some lovely herb encrusted salmon on a bed of yummy salad. Mmmmm...

The only tiny quibble i have is that the room layout meant that I got a bit of a stiff neck trying to watch TV from bed. I was, however, able to work some knots out in the gym with a great trainer, who taught me a few new tricks (for which I'm sore, but grateful).

Overall, very satisfied. Did I mention the service? Fanatastique.

I attended a conference in Ottawa and stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. It is a very clean hotel with so much character. Some people don’t like character they like bold contemporary but this hotel is not that! Some things needs to be updated I would say but I am sure every hotel has something that needs to be improved.
The check in service was a little slow but it was a very busy time with conference delegates etc. They were very polite and a nice clean lobby and very clean room.
My room overlooked the drop off area at the front where the taxi pulled in etc.etc. But, because it was on the small side and I also didn’t have a room safe I asked the lobby if any room had a safe. They said yes, and they could move me to one. So, okay… why not! They were very accommodating and sent a bell hop up with take my bags to another room and brought keys to the new room. This other room was a bit further from the elevator but it was much larger, had a room safe and it overlooked a small courtyard, I could see the other wing of the hotel. Not a view of the water but it was really, really QUIET! No road, traffic or other room noise etc. We ate at the Milestones right near the hotel and walked around the city visiting the Art Museum, War Museum and University that is very close by.
The hotel is very nice, a lot of character, very clean, centrally located and right near the Rideau.

The Chateau Laurier was an atmospheric and elegant weekend oasis in Canada's lovely capital city. The Laurier stands out for its perfect location, right by Parliament Hill. My wife and I were able to easily combine historic sites and Winterlude festivities while our teen age daughter enjoyed skating on the Rideau Canal.
Shopping at the nearby Rideau Centre was convenient and offered both Canadian and international stores as well as currency exchange. Nearby, The Byward Market and the merchants of Dalhousie Street offered unique dining and shopping.
While relaxing at the Laurier, be sure to try to try the local Canadian cheeses from Quebec. We found them marvelous with their pinot noir. Enjoy ottawa and the Laurier!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of Parliament!

We decided to book one night on the last weekend of the Winterlude. This hotel is really located at the best place you can want. Next to the parliamant of canada (which the guided visit is free by the way), close to the canal Rideau for skating on the longest skating surface in the world, close to all other Winterlude activities, next to Byward market with great restaurants and shops, and the Rideau centre shopping mall. Everything is within walking distance.

The hotel is a typical Fairmont hotel (former railway hotel of the 1800s). The first floor has maintained its charm from this period of time. The rooms have been renovated but have kept some old elements (the doors, the marble in the bathroom). They are very clean.

We went for breakfast at the hotel restaurant as it was included in our package. Very good selection of food with Fairmont's signature breakfast dish (maple butter pancakes - you need to have some!).

All in all, we definitevely will return to this hotel for the next Winterlude in Ottawa.
