We stayed at the Chateau Laurier for the 1st time & just loved it! You couldn't walk down a hall or a staircase without being surrounded by beautiful antiques, amazing souvenirs & photographs of its history, & the timeless elegance of marble, bronze, & gorgeous chandeliers everywhere. Where else can you stay where major international political figures & celebrities have shared in the place's history? Our room had a lovely view of the water, the bed was very comfortable & the room very spacious. The bathroom might have been a tad in need of refurbishment, but it was still fine & clean. The location of the Chateau is great, because we could walk everywhere, & after a stroll back toward the hotel along the canal, we watched the locks for awhile which are right next to it. The Parliament buildings & Supreme Court are pretty much next door & the Byward Market area is just down the street. We ate at Wilfred's when we first drove in, & it was lovely & the food was quite good. We absolutely loved staying at the Chateau (you really do feel like you're living in a castle when you look out the window!), & would definitely stay there anytime we go back to Ottawa.

We booked the cheapest room but nothing was lacking. It had one double bed but that was all we wanted. The room was well equipped, lovely en suite, large fluffy towels and bath robes. We are tea drinkers and were quickly provided with a kettle. We were lucky to have a good view of the canal and Parliament House. We took breakfast at the hotel and were very pleased with the selection and service. Tables were put together to accommodate our group. The whole decor of this hotel is great. All the staff were very courteous, friendly and helpful. A wonderful venue for a wedding, with exquisite food. We also made use of the good swimming pool. It was a wonderful experience to stay in such a hotel.

I stayed at the Fairmont for two nights for a wedding. Overall, the hotel is excellent, as you would expect. We were able to get a great rate ($144 per night, posted on the Fairmont webpage about two weeks prior to our stay).

The only downside was that with the great price comes other clientele who may not normally stay at a place like the Fairmont. Our neighbours on the second night were partying very loudly until at least 3:30 in the morning, at which point I went to the lobby to request another room. The service is outstanding however, and they provided one without any hassle since they had already received complaints about our neighbours. We had to call to have the smoke detector repaired in the second room and the maintenance guy showed up within five minutes and just removed the smoke detector. Both of these problems were outside the control of the hotel, so I can't really fault them for them, and I was pleased at how quickly they took care of it.

The hotel was really beautiful, and it was great to stay right in the heart of Ottawa.Despite the lack of sleep that I got, I would recommend the hotel. They treat everyone like VIP.

Few restaurants in any city offer the unparalleled service and amenities of the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Canada. Food, service, accommodations, and finer touches all welcome the traveler or business client with a friendly smile and exquisite privileges.

Our food was haute-cuisine, fresh, hot, unique, and delightful tastes. All well within the expectation. The room was quiet, warm, inviting, ... luxurious.

What the Chateau does better than all others is service - when you need it, they are there. Polite, courteous, friendly, helpful - they know their business.

Back again often - a home away from home.

Stay at the chateau Laurier after many, many years, and still as charming,

Very comfortable room with great views of the Ottawa River and the Parliament buildings.

The best thing about the hotel was the staff. Always courteous, helpful, and pleasant,

We had breakfast each morning and the food selection was wide and the quality very high. The bar was atmospheric of years gone by.

Very good value for money.

We stayed here for 4 nights in June, the hotel staff was very accomodating.
There was a glitch with the A/C and they moved us to the concierge level in a magnificent room, we were happy campers. The location of the hotel is great, it is walking distance to shops restaurants and nightlife. The beautiful and historic buildings were all right around us, easy walking. We took the open air double decker bus tour and really enjoyed that as well as the parliament tour. This city is beautiful, the people are very nice and the food was great. If you can spend the extra for the Chateau, do it.
By the way, my mother tried to book on the internet, found it really pricey, but called the hotel directly and got a much lower rate, who knew?! Absolutely loved it!

The Chateau Laurier is an historic hotel adjacent to Parliament Hill. It is very grand by Ottawa standards. The rooms are well maintained but small. I found the passageways and hotel layout cavernous. The location is nice if you are going to Parliament Hill, but otherwise a bit of a hike to downtown or the Byward Market. Wilfrid's Restaurant is a superb place for very fine dining, and has the city's best view of the Bytown Locks. Zoe's, the lobby bar, is the grandest bar in all of Ottawa. The Chateau is still a pricey place to stay, though.
