“Downtown convenience at a reasonable price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2014

This was a three-day work-related trip. I booked my one-bedroom suite online which indicated check-in was at 4pm, but I was able to check-in a few hours earlier which was very useful. If you want to use the pool, exercise room, outdoor patio or children's playroom, you'll need a separate access card which I had to go back to the front desk to get because I didn't get it initially. The pool is good for short laps and has "adult only" hours early in the morning and late afternoon during the weekdays which is helpful. The outdoor patio can be accessed from the pool, but you aren't supposed to bring food or drink to it. I found it useful for morning work because there are tables and umbrellas and it is a cooler spot to be in the morning. The balconies are a decent size, but are noisy if you also have the a/c on, which is understandable. The a/c noise inside the room is not an issue and circulates well inside all parts of the suite. The kitchenette is well-equipped as is the whole unit. The only surprise as far as amenities go, was that the bathroom options were 'motelish' as there was a soap dispenser in the shower stall and nothing else. Blue liquid was supposed to serve as both body soap and shampoo? Not even a bar of soap at the sink? Fortunately I always bring my own, so it wasn't a major issue.
The service in all areas was super, great check-in and -out, friendly with questions always being answered. Housekeeping was consistently pleasant, helpful and efficient. The Italian restaurant attached to the hotel comes highly recommended, but my work demands meant working meals generally, so I can't offer a personal opinion. Because Elgin Street is right there, many options exist
The exercise room has a decent amount of various pieces of equipment. There is no "business centre" beyond a computer in a little cubby beside the ATM machine, but the front desk will help you with printing and faxing needs. I like that each floor has a laundry room with reasonably priced washing and drying machines, and just a stone's throw away is a reputable dry cleaners.
It was raining at check-out, but there were two taxis waiting outside, so getting to the airport is not an issue. The wifi service was consistently good enough for Netflix streaming, as I don't watch regular TV anymore, and other digital downloading.
The location downtown is excellent for nightlife, dining (beyond Elgin St) or shopping at the Rideau/Downtown/ByWard Market are all within a reasonable walking distance as are a number of tourist attractions, should that be your reason to be in the city.
Yes it is an older building, more noticeable when on room floors, but this is why the price is more attractive. A kitchenette means you can save on some meals so that you can go to better restaurants when you do eat out. Overall the room/suite is a good size and well-equipped/furnished, I would go back again.

Room Tip: If you want to use your balcony, choose a room on the south side (uneven numbers, not the Cooper St...

The suite worked very well for five adults. With the kitchenette and laundry service, it is definitely a place that would work well for a long-term stay. The hotel is quite nice, and the restaurant serves a good breakfast at reasonable prices. It's in a great location for walking distances to a lot of interesting things in Ottawa. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only knock against the hotel is that it is starting to show signs of age. Upgrades would easily make this a 5-star review.

My wife and I just spent three nights at this hotel in one of their one bedroom suites. Check in and out was efficient and the people at the front desk are always there to assist you.

Our suite was on the Cooper side of the street or north side of the building thus facing the street...there is no normal street noise that one can hear but early in the mornings there was always a garbage dump truck serving the street that made it noisy.

I would suggest a room and or suite on the south side of the building where its really quiet.

The location, the condition of the hotel and our room was very good according us good value for this type of hotel with a kitchenette, dinete and living area with a separate bedroom....you can't beat the location being close to the parliament buildings, the canal, the market and restaurants on Elgin Street.

I certainly recommend this hotel for a nice stay in downtown Ottawa.

Room Tip: Get a room on the south side of the building.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights one week ago. We booked 2 bedroom unit and were happy with the choice. The unit was on the 5th floor, very clean, quiet and comfortable. Clean carpet, clean kitchen, bathroom in very good conditions. Indoor pool and children's playroom were perfect for our two children under five. The restaurant in the lobby was very tasty (a bit expensive though). It was very cold in Ottawa during our stay, so we used heating, which was in both bedrooms. Will be coming back!

We stayed at the Cartier Place Suite Hotel with our family of 4 (1 bedroom: 2 double beds) during the long weekend in August 2014. It has a perfect location - walking distance to all the tourist attractions in downtown Ottawa. The kitchen is great for preparing your own food, & a grocery store is only 3 blocks away. The kids loved the swimming pool & hot tub. The free wifi was also a bonus. The staff was friendly and helpful. The suite was clean, and perfect for what we needed. Thank you Cartier Place Suite Hotel!

We stayed here for three nights while my husband worked in Ottawa.
It was great since we didn't have a car and we have three young children.
We walked to Parliament and the Byward market, as well as the Rideau Centre.
The pool was nice with the outdoor patio, and the kids even played at the mini playground area.

Rooms were spacious, but the bathroom needed some updating, especially the shower.

The kitchen needed a few more dishes since there were five of us in the room.

Loved this place. We stayed in a 2 bedroom ( 1 queen , 2 twins), 1 bathroom suite. The interior is a little dated, but everything is clean and working. The kitchen has all the equipment to cook your own meals, a diningroom table and a sitting corner with a pull out couch . There's a balcony too with additional seating. Laundry rooms and ice are situated on alternating floors. The swimming pool is on the ground floor and of a good size. There's even a playground ! There are plenty of great and affordable restaurants and pubs near the hotel. Groceries are within easy walking distance too. Parking is under the hotel, and expensive like every other place. And Parliament Hill is a 10 minute walk.
What I loved best was the Staff. Very service orientated . Pick up the phone within one ring. I had an issue with a washing machine: called and 2 minutes later a guy came to look at it!(fixed in 1 minute!)
Would definitely come back to stay again.
