“Great hotel--a nice break from chain hotels!”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This was our first visit to this hotel. We asked for 2 queen beds and was upgraded to 2 beds in 2 rooms.

The hotel looks like it was an old apartment that was renovated to be a "suite" hotel. So, our suite had a full kitchen, full dining room, living room, large bath, and 2 bedrooms. It may be larger than our flat at home!

The suite was kept very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed.

The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a Quickie convenience store that is connected to the hotel that is open 24/7 which is handy for drinks and snacks.

Highly recommended.

For over 10 years, Albert at Bay has provided my grade 8 classes with outstanding service and value. I am impressed by the hotel's commitment to continually upgrade, remodel and refresh in order to maintain a high standard. I was particularly impressed with the new and beautiful furnishings, as well as the incredibly comfortable beds/bedding! Location is unbeatable as students are able to walk to most venues in the downtown area. The staff, from group reservations to front desk, as always, went out of their way to ensure satisfaction. Thanks for yet another outstanding stay at Albert at Bay!

Albert at Bay is one of those hotels where you tell yourself.."I must come back"! I spent most of last week at Albert at Bay on business...and frankly speaking, the front desk staff were extremely polite and accommodating beyond the "call of duty". [Simon (senior) at the front desk did his utmost to ensure we were well taken off and satisfied when we checked in...hats off to you!] The housekeeping staff were also quite nice and did a fantastic job of having the rooms "spotless" on a daily basis. By the way, when they say the suites are big, they mean it... I stayed in a one-bedroom suite which had a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a living room a dining area plus the bedroom with a king-sized bed!!! On top of that, free WiFi for as many devices you want. When next in Ottawa, I shall definitely be staying at Albert at Bay!

Recently stayed here for a short visit with my boyfriend, who needed to conduct some business during the week. The location is right downtown, and easy to find when arriving by car, despite all the one-way streets. We arrived at close to midnight, and the front door was locked. We had to ring the bell to get buzzed in. The person at the front desk was very courteous and professional and check-in was fast.

We had reserved for a one-bedroom suite with a king bed, but there was none available when we arrived, so she put us in a two-bed room king-suite for the same price. The parking garage is in the basement of the same building, but the entrance is on the side street, which, unfortunately was in the wrong direction of the one-way street, so we had to make a rather big loop around the blocks in order to enter the garage. Since we have CAA membership, parking is included in the room rate, but make sure that you mention this upon check-in, because there is no place on the hotel's online reservation site to state that. We were told at first that the free parking is only available if we made the reservation by phone, but upon my telling her that I made the reservation on their website, we were given the free parking without any further argument.

The hotel is located within walking distance to the Sparks St. mall and Parliament Hill, but still in a very quiet neighbourhood. At times we think it's a bit too quiet, because the streets were completely empty when we arrived, and we found out later that the hotel's front door is locked after 10pm and we can only enter either using our room key or buzzing the door bell. But then it's because it's in Ottawa, where no one goes out at night. Still we felt a bit like we were kids on a 10 o'clock curfew.

Our suite was enormous and well-furnished, with lots of comfortable seating and a TV in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms. We had 2 queen beds in each bedroom, which was way too many for just the two of us, but then who would complain? The bed is super-comfy and there is a pillow menu on the bed, listing all the other types of pillows we could order if the ones already provided (2 each of down-and-feather and polyester fiber-fill) were not good enough. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with amenities. There was no lack of hot water for the shower. There is a full-sized kitchen, well-stocked with dishes and utensils, stove, full-sized fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, dishwasher, dish detergent for both dishwasher and hand dishwashing, dish cloths and dish towels. The place is spotless. Even the fridge and stove were clean. There is a separate dining area off the kitchen, next to a balcony with patio doors. It really feels like we were in someone's apartment. The only potential drawback is there is only a smallish window in each of the bedrooms, as opposed to the wall-to-wall windows we are used to seeing in hotel rooms. For me that's no big deal. I find it even better for sleeping in. There are two bathrooms, one being an ensuite.

The carpet, by the way, is light in colour, so it is easy to tell if it's clean or not, and it was clean. The entrance to the suite was tiled, so it's more conducive to leave our shoes at the door and not track dirt into the rest of the suite.

Finally, there is a very well-equipped gym on the top floor, with a whole set of top-of-the-line Nautilus single-exercise weight-training equipment, just like what you'll find in a commercial gym, as well as treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights, yoga mats, exercise ball, eliptical machine, and a chart of warm-up and cool-down exercises. The machines were super smooth and it's a real joy to work out in that gym.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Recently had to stay several nights in Ottawa and so chose the Albert at Bay Suite hotel so that I could enjoy my own meals if necessary. I was pleasantly surprised at the generous size of the suite. This is a real apartment but at reasonable rates and the comfort of a hotel (room service, coffee and tea provided). The fully equipped kitchen was not only nice looking but really functional. The property includes a 24 hour\7 days a week store to purchase quick meals or the ingredients to make one. The service was excellent and the place was super clean and super quiet. For couples or families wanting the hotel experience but home comforts, this is a great choice. I will definitely stay here again if I need to be in a hotel for more than 2 nights.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for our first visit to Ottawa. The location is very good as it is near the beautiful government buildings.
The hotel is an old style building but with large suites with a good living room and full kitchen.
The service at the front desk is poor. No luggage help and directions erroneous. The price for the room is very reasonable?

Room Tip: We had a room to e rear which was quiet

I have tried other hotels in the Ottawa area and this is now my preference. Beautiful hotel, clean and updated. Prices were great. Me and co-worker got a superior two bedroom suite for cheaper than two basic rooms at any other hotel in the area. A selling point for us was the convenience store attached to the lobby open 24hrs a day! Parking garage is very clean and secure.
