The building itself is poorly laid out and poorly marked. In any particular place you have no idea how to get to any other part of the collection. There is no really fluid way to move through the works in any linear way.

Very impressed with the exterior of the gallery, but on this visit, the interior was not too impressive. Hopefully time will be better.

The photographic collection of McCullin was awe inspiring and will not be forgotten. The modern art is something that always gets my husband's blood pressure up - a pile of felt entitled "PIle of Felt" and a room full of black balloons will stimulate the dinner conversation for sure! The international art collection is a must see and this gallery is a national treasure in itself.

This is my favourite art gallery and I always make time to visit. But this time I also tried out a modern art installation.. a large room full of balloons! Honestly- a large, 15 ft. high ceiling room- with exactly half the volume full of regular black balloons. Incredible experience, with such a simple premise. Brilliant!
The rest of the gallery is of course a must-see in Ottawa, and you can stroll the market afterward. Their gift shop is the very BEST. Enjoy!

Been to the gallery many many times. Can spend a whole afternoon here. Its location is prime and offers not only spectacular art from around the world but also the best views of downtown you could ask for. The museum offers MANY exhibits from native canadian art to renaissance art to neo-classical to very modern and contemporary art. A must see for any art lover and even for the inexperienced. The guided audio tour is impeccable and offers not only information on technique but the story behind the piece as well as the artist.
