“College Conference Residence”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

This facility was a real deal. The rooms are actually two bedroom apartments meant for conference goers who need a good bed and a place to study. You should not expect a hotel with room service and a swimming pool but if you want a clean, spacious room, and a basic Continental breakfast and parking, you will be quite happy with this residence. Hotels downtown charge about $16 a day for parking and about $30 a day fro breakfast for two. Add this all up and this residence costs about one third as much as a downtown hotel. You can easily get downtown by bus or car. The bus stops outside the front door.
If you are here long enough to get tired of the Continental breakfast, Tim Hortons and McDonalds are around the corner, or try Summerhays Grill for a super breakfast.

This is a college dorm. All I needed was a bed to sleep in for one night. For a very low price that's exactly what I got, with a basic breakfast included. Great deal. Do not expect any frills whatsoever.

Recently stayed there on a course. You got what you payed for. Rooms are ok, good bed though. Access to phones, internet service, both cable and wireless as well as TV's in each bedroom. Good size fridge. No utensils in the kitchen Very basic breakfast down stairs, not what you expect by Australian standards but it was ok. There are washing machines and dryers - you need a card that you put credit on to use them. That is avaialable at the reception and easily topped up with more credit if needed. Little shop/mini supermarket in the foyer was ok and had what you needed if you where short on anything. Benifit of the location is that there is a 24 supermarket with in walking distance, McDonald's,Tim Horton's coffee shop and a nice restaurant for dinner close by.
There is a bus terminal not far from the building that takes you all the way into town for $3.70. Tip is that you need exact money, no change will be given. I would recommend that you buy a multi use pass or a all day pass. I used it to travel into town and onto a few tourist destinations.
Front desk is open 24hrs and the staff there are excellent. They are very friendly and helpful.
Lots of group booking so beware if you do not want to share with a 1000 kids. Ask to be put on the 5th floor. You got what you paid for. No issue and enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the 5th floor away from the kids.

Suite has two rooms, bathroom and kitchenette. Nice Courtyard as well. College Square has nice shops, all the main places you would need (mcdonalds, timmies, pizza pizza, pharmacy, Loblaws) and the College has a Starbucks which is right across from the Residence. It is very clear it is a College dorm, but for $70 night you get a good location, free continental breakfast, cable television and internet. Front desk staff and housekeeping are very friendly. There is also a little store in the main lobby that you can get any snacks you need.

Thus was the mandatory accommodation for a course i had enrolled in. If you are looking for cheap accommodation then this is the place, there is a small kitchen in the 2 bedroom units but there is no cutlery, cooking utensils, plates etc (you'll need to buy). The accommodation is basic and old, the walls are marked and first impressions walking in I felt like bleaching everything. We had a room cleaner for the first couple of days but after that there was nothing so many of us ran out of toilet paper and towels. Depending on who you get on the front desk will depend the service you get and how much you get charge. The amenities (gym, masseur) are over priced and basic for how much you pay. The college is approximately 25 mins to the city via a direct bus route. There are shops near by (factory outlets) and a 24/7 supermarket where you can buy all your needs from.

Room Tip: Chose a room that does not face the road as in the morning the excursion buses leave from this area...

We went with the kids swim team for 5 nights. The rooms are large dorm style. The mattresses are hit and miss for firmness. Bring your own pillows ( Loblaw's across street sold them for $4.00)
the ones supplied are to small. Big fridge and microwave in the room. There are communal kitchens and lounges on each floor. We did a BBQ for the team one night , we prepared a buffet dinner in the kitchen another night. Lots of groceries and liquor stores in walking distance. You can save lots by doing your own meals. The place was full during our stay, about 2000 people roaming around. It was a fun , lots of sports teams, class trips and families. Kids running around the halls and impromptu parties starting up in the common areas at all hours. If you are looking a quit romantic time you are better off paying double for a standard hotel . If you need cheap accommodation and don't want to get hosed for booze and food by a hotel , then this is the place.

Room Tip: courtyard rooms could be noisy if a late night party starts up.

We had this residence booked for my daughter's entire sport club as we were attending a large meet in Ottawa. The club attempted to book something economical. Unfortunately, the savings were not worth the sacrifice. Upon entering the room, the first thing we smelled was cigarette smoke. (All rooms are "non-smoking"). It was hard to tell if it was the previous customer who had smoked, or if it was deeply ingrained in the peeling wallpaper and filthy carpet and upholstery. There were stains on the carpet and chairs that don't leave much to the imagination. The bed mattress was so old worn that there was a distinct divet in the middle of the mattress, (where two people sleeping tend to roll and both end up in the middle!) and you could feel the springs poking through as well. There is a full sized fridge, microwave and sink in the kitchette, but there are no pots and pans or utensils...so not much use unless you plan on packing the same amount of stuff you would need to go camping. So trying to save money by cooking your own meals becomes totally inconvenient. There are showers only in the rooms, one of the families was missing the shower curtain in theirs, and they had a leak in their bathroom ceiling.

The continental breakfast included with the $70.00/night is cereals, bagels, some fruit, juice, coffee (which is HORRENDOUS) and tea. Pretty basic, but its something.

The front desk staff double booked our lounge on the floor where we were holding a team dinner, so it caused a bit of trouble between ours and another sports club. That being said, the staff were super apologetic and extremely polite. The cleaning staff were friendly and accomodating.

If you are looking for even an ounce of comfort, do not stay here. We hardly slept a wink in the 4 days we were there, which is not good when attending competitions!!

Ottawa is a beautiful city with plenty to see and do. Find somewhere a little nicer to stay so you will enjoy your trip. There is no value in waking up cranky and sore!!
