We arrived the last day of June and were pleased with how quickly we were given directions to our site and how pleasant the office staff were. We chose to camp rather than book a pricy hotel for the long weekend.
The campground was easy to find and close to many stores, hiking trails and the Eaglson Park and Ride.
We received a military discount upon check in.
The campsite was narrow but shady, dry and had a short walk to the washrooms. We stayed on 6B5 and it was very buggy. The mosquitoes were swarming us within minutes. We bought two Off lamps at Canadian tire and the problem was solved. Mosquitoes in Canada in July are just part of outdoor living.
We took the 96 bus into the city from the Eagleson Park and Ride on July 1. We got off at Metcalfe St on the advice of a nice Ottawa man and walked up to the festivities. There is also a shuttle that runs to and from the campground at 9 am and 1 pm on Canada day, but it was 20$ each. The OC Transpo busses were free! After the fireworks we jumped back on the bus and were home before midnight.
The washrooms were very clean up until day 4 of our stay(Thursday) when it seemed like the washroom crew forgot our washroom. It got very muddy very quickly due to rain. The shower was also dirty. It was clean agin on Friday morning.
The campground is lovely and it was quiet during the long weekend and very very quiet later in the week. There is firewood, Internet, ice cream, tourist info, basic camp supplies and laundry.
All in all this is a great and affordable place to stay if you want to experience the city of Ottawa on a budget
