Owner description: Owned by the City of Oshawa, and managed by Spectra Venue Management, the General Motors Centre opened in 2006 with a project cost of $45 million. As Durham Region’s premier Sports and Entertainment Facility, the General Motors Centre provides a first-class home to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, the Durham TurfDogs of the Canadian Lacrosse League and the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame. The venue also boasts an in-house restaurant, Prospects Bar & Grill, which is open typically 2 hours prior to live and sporting events as well as throughout the week for the Durham Central Adult Hockey League (DCAHL). Since opening, the General Motors Centre has hosted major concerts and special events including Elton John, Cirque du Soleil, 2011 BDO Canadian Open, IIHF World Junior Pre-Competition, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Hedley, Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships, Selena Gomez and The Wiggles; just to name a few!

We've been to this venue several times to see concerts. Our most recent visit was to see The Tragically Hip. The sound system isn't the best we've heard but most of the time it is quite adequate. The size of the arena affords a fairly decent view from most seats. If you are sitting in the stands, I would recommend row 3 or higher. The problem with the first couple of rows is that once the people on the floors stand (and they always do)..your view is very much obstructed. The washrooms are completely inadequate for the size of the crowd and the hallways are too small to accommodate the long lineup for us girls so it becomes just a big clump of women trying to defend their spot in line.

The other issue is the number of drunks that seem to flock to this place. We've been to all the major concert venues in the GTA and this one has to be the worst for those who don't know their limits. We had falling down drunks come down to sit in the aisles so they could have a closer view. Security did nothing. Their priority seemd to be on checking tickets of people returning to the floor seats.

That all being said. Ticket prices are much more reasonable than the large venues in Toronto. Parking nearby is reasonably priced. It's worth putting up with some of the inconveniences.

Saw Blue Rodeo here. Acoustics are great! We had seats 7 rows up to the side of the stage and the sight lines were very good, seemed like a small club setting. Beer was nice and cold too!

Great place to watch sports. Mostly been to General's games but a few concerts. Parking is usually not bad.
