“Wonderful meal!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

There were four in our group and we all enjoyed our meals very much. We all enjoyed an appetizer, main and dessert and tried to order different things so we could all taste!! Everything was so artfully presented and so delicious! There wasn't a flaw to be found... absolute perfection!! Thank you for such a wonderful evening!!

“A haven for gourmets”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Much of the food along the main street of Niagara on the Lake is not too great. We have had better success at restaurants in the Wineries of the region. BUT the Charles Inn is a notable exception. Service, decor, and most important, the food are all "5 star". Our dishes included a delectable salad, poached fois gras, and duck breast served creatively with a small cassoulet that repeated the duck theme by including a small amount of duck confit. Excellent! The Creme Brule dessert was one of the best we have experienced. Charles Inn has a very helpful "bring your own wine" policy for a reasonable corkage charge so if you have a treasured bottle, they will serve it for you with care. Of course they also have an extensive wine list.

“Consistent excellent food”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

We have visited this restaurant several times and were not disappointed again. The food was excellent, both of us had steak, which was impeccably presented, great quality. The wine selection, all Canadian, is excellent and well priced for the quality of rsstaurant. We only had one small minor complaint, the service was good but somewhat slower. We waited for about an hour and fifteen minutes for our main course, while other diners were getting theirs in about 45 minutes.

“Try the tasting menu!”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Went here with my husband to celebrate our 14th anniversary. Booked as part of a package at our hotel. On arrival, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of local sparkling wine. We brought our own wine - corkage was $18. We were interested in the tasting menu so they applied the value if our package to the tasting menu. The food was fabulous from the amuse bouche of leek and potato soup with basil oil to the dark chocolate tart with hazelnuts and candied orange. The du puy lentils with foie gras and chestnut velouté was particularly memorable. The main of beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes with foie gras had an unsociable amount of garlic but was very tasty nonetheless. Our waiter was attentive and really added to the experience - even quoting Monty Python to us!
The restaurant itself in the drawing room of a 150 year old building with gorgeous architectural details and modern touches provided a great backdrop without being too precious. We walked to and from the restaurant from our hotel - the restaurant is very walkable from downtown. We liked the extensive selection of local wines and a focus on local foods: things like local prosciutto and port and fig jam with local cheese dot the menu . Worth a visit for a special meal . Highly recommend the tasting menu. Beautiful food and not gluttonous portions like on some tasting menus. We'll be back!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent dinner here at The Charles Inn. Reading these wonderful comments so soon after launching this menu definitely makes all the hard work and planning that went into it feel all the more worth it!! The Foie Gras dish was one of the new items that I was particularly looking forward to, so I’m happy you made a note that it happened to be one of the more memorable courses. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

“Delicious 3 course meal with great service”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

My boyfriend and I dined at The Charles Inn restauarant while on a weekend get away to Niagara on the Lake. Our meal was part of a package we had booked while staying at the Harbour House. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess and seated at a cozy 2 person table in the back of the restaurant, there were only two other tables in the room and they are spread out in a way so you are not right on top of one another. Our server greeted us and made a wine recommendation as well as recommendations for entrees. I was a little wary of the meal being part of a package because to my surprise this package included all taxes and gratuities and I just didn't want our service to be different because the tip was already included. I was not disappointed in the service, our waiter was friendly and accomodating and the food was delicious. I had the gnocchi appetizer followed by the scallops entree and a chocolate torte for dessert. I know it's in poor taste to lick the plate but I honestly wanted too! LOL. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice relaxing meal with delicious food and excellent service!
