I was one of the first guests at Green Oaks Inn in early summer 2007. This beautiful "Turn of the Century" house in the village of St.Davids, Niagara-on-the Lake, is conveniently located among the wineries, and handy to the theatres of the Shaw Festival.

I was impressed by the classical features of the house, the comfortable rooms equipped with all the latest facilities ready for use, the open garden with its tiny fountain, gazebo, flowers and trees, and above all, by the care and attention showered on the guests by the owner. As I sipped a welcoming glass of wine on the open front porch, with the warm rays of the sun filtering through the trees, I thought again how fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful, peaceful land, and to have such a wonderful place to stay so readily available. And as for breakfast--a gorgeous meal prepared me for a day of sight-seeing in Niagara Falls, followed in the evening by a great show at the theatre.

Life does not get much better!

My mom and I picked last minute a B&B based on curb appeal and gut feeling and we were truly not let down at all. This inn had great detail, an excellent refreshing room and an interesting old tree to discuss while melting in relaxation on the large front porch. Breakfast had amazing choices and words can not describe it, it must be tried!!!

We thought we were lucky to find a vacancy in town over July 4 weekend, but we realized how lucky we were when we got to Green Oaks. We were met by the general manager, who has spent the past year restoring the beautiful house. The stained glass windows are amazing. Our bed was ultra-comfortable. The claw-foot tub was gorgeous. It was quiet. We hung out on the porch, which was decorated with flowers. The home is on the edge of a vineyard outside of town, just far enough to feel like you're a bit in the country, but close enough that you can get there in 10 minutes. We were the only guests so had the floor to ourselves. The empty rooms were probably because the place had only been open for three weeks, but we would have never known that had the host not said so.
At $185 (Can.) for the night, it was pricey. But we had just spent a disappointing $125 (U.S.) the night before on a roadside Holiday Inn Express. I was happy to spend the extra money and actually enjoy the place, plus get a nice breakfast. Moreover, it's a work in progress. The host has plans to renovate the garage and to turn a small cottage into guest accomodations. I like supporting entrepreneurs, and I look forward to returning and seeing the progress she makes.

Enjoy the Gardens, or do as we do have a coffee/wine on the porch and watch the cyclists go by. We are located on a popular cycling route. We would love to welcome you with your pet however we have 2 cats that think they run the place. Lets talk about it before you bring your pets. For those with allergies, my cats are not allowed in the guest rooms, one is an outside one, the other well she just likes that I run a bed and breakfast. Smoking is not allowed in the house but please feel free to smoke on the porch or in the gardens. Please just remember to use ashtrays.
