“Staying with 'The Colonel'”

This was our first stay at this Best Western and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Ontario and is a good base from which to explore many interesting and varied tourist sites. The price-point compared to other local establishments is good-value; this is especially so when one considers the cleanliness of the facility and the friendly staff. Penny was particularly helpful when we were arranging our booking. A special bonus is the close proximity to a Tim Horton's coffee shop across the street!

We were very pleasantly surprised when we checked in, there was a personalized gift bag for our pooch, with doggie treats, poop bags and a doggie toy. The room had a laminated floor and there was equipped with a doogie bed and a feeding station. Needless to say we felt welcomed here. The staff was very friendly and they even offered pet sitting services. If you are planning a trip to the Niagara region with your dog, I highly recommend this inn. Great location, it's a short stroll to the all the shops and restaurants, 24 hr Tim Horton's across the street.

Room Tip: There is only one pet room, you should call ahead to make sure that it's available.

I called the Best Western after reading the reviews of others and because my friend and I are traveling with my 78 pound labradoodle -- a gentle giant who needs a place to rest his head.
My stay begins tomorrow, but for anyone considering this hotel, I have dealt with the front desk directly to make my reservation, secure a pet friendly room, find a dog sitter and get a list of different restaurants. Each hospitality agent / concierge I have spoken to, (all more than once) has been pleasant helpful and has encouraged me to explore and call back for more assistance.
If the hotel is as good as its employees, I will be very happy.

Room Tip: Ask specifically for a pet room in order to assure you book it.

We were extremely impressed by the warm and extremely helpful welcome we received from Marlene Gidney as we checked in - it really has left a lasting impression on us. This was our third visit to this hotel and we have only good comments to make. Everywhere is very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was great and it's a perfect place to stay when visiting the Shaw Festival and very good value. We look forward to our next stay and have no hesitation in recommending the Colonel Butler Inn to fellow travellers.

Niagara On The Lake with its beautiful parks and quaint colonial is the jewel of the Niagara Region. Because of this accommodation costs at some of the more historic or opulent hotels can be high.
The Colonel Butler is a perfect, moderately priced option. Set only a 15 minute walk from the town heart, the hotel is set among lovely walking streets and period homes. A lovely tavern/pub, the Sand Trap, is only a block away. A 24 hour Tim Horton's coffee shop/cafe is nearby.
Modern panel TVs, cable and a lovely continental breakfast served on real china make this property good value. Rooms have colonial furnishings. They even have a bike rental service and info/menus on local restaurants and nearby historic attractions. Would return anytime. Moderate pricing in an expensive quaint town. Very good value.

Great place to hang your hat for an evening...often we do day trips and like to stay at a hotel just to avoid driving after a day of it, and after attending the Pellar Estates food truck event, this was perfect....Yes, the hotel is slightly dated, but it satisfied everything we were looking for...the staff were exceptionally friendly, and very knowlegeable about the area...it had everything we needed, and it didn't break the bank...would definitely consider this hotel again for another trip to NOTL....the free breakfast is a great touch, and if you're up early enough, go for it...we chose to sleep a little later, which meant the breakfast room was full...the lady running it was very friendly and concerned after we had a look and decided to head off...no fault of hers!! We just weren't in the mood for the crowd!! Lol!

Dear Michael, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at the Colonel Butler. We're very fortunate to have such a great team here who take pride in providing exceptional service. I am sorry to see that you didn't get a chance to enjoy our breakfast and that we weren't able to let you know that we have trays so that guests can bring their breakfast to our patio or back to their guest room. Thank you for leaving a review and we hope you can stay with us again!

We spent 2 nights at this property for the Shaw Festival. This property is an older one but the room was very clean, well-appointed with an extra sink in the room. The beds were very comfortable with decent pillows and bedding. Nice TV, desk and drawers. Bathroom was small but coveniently set up with a good shower. The hotel does NOT have an elevator which was not a problem for us. The breakfast was quite good with a big bowl of fresh fruits to select, waffles with a fresh fruit topping, good selection of breads, cereal, hard boiled eggs, juice. It is a long walk into town so we drove. Niagara on the Lake is a lovely, quaint town with great restaurants, stores and nearby wineries. We plan to make this a very trip.
