“A wonderful stay!”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Our friends found about this B and B for our weekend stay, biking and wineries. Ed and Irene were wonderful! They found extra room in the garage to store our bikes and made sure we had coupons for free tastings at the wineries! Our "Elizabeth" room was comfortable and the upstairs "beverage" center for refreshments was wonderful. They even had a little guest fridge for our "doggie bags" and wine. Breakfast was tasty and they even brought out mimosas for all of us to celebrate one of the guests 50th anniversary celebration. A fantastic stay!

My husband and I just had our second overnight at Abacot Hall and found it every bit as delightful as the first time. The new owners, Ed and Irene, are carrying on the same quality of service and friendliness as the previous owners, Pauline and Mike. Ed & Irene greet - and treat - you as family. We're planning on returning next year. Incidentally, one reviewer remarked about the lack of books. Actually, they have a nice "library" of paperbacks, as well as a good selection of DVDs. Breakfast was excellent, with several selections from which to choose. Ed is quite the cook! Just a little FYI...we had noticed the less than glowing review from sunset107. It turns out that the reason they received a breakfast coupon was because of a medical situation which could not be helped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Oh! I almost forgot - this second visit was actually our honeymoon - and Ed & Irene broke out a bottle of bubbly and we all had mimosas for breakfast! It was so much fun!.

Ed and Irene are absolutely the people you hope to have as your b&b hosts: friendly, detail-oriented yet relaxed, they really make you feel at home from the get-go. The brekkies are tailored, tasty and as filling as you want; the bedrooms are comfy and well-appointed; bikes are available to explore at your leisure; the deck provides a private spot to read or enjoy wine you've picked up at one of the myriad area wineries. Their Georgian home is beautifully furnished and appointed, and nice and quiet, even to sleep with the window open. We would stay here again in a heartbeat - definitely a honeymoon highlight for us.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights, choosing the package deal that included tickets to the Shaw Festival, a dinner out, and tickets to several wine tours.

Abacot Hall is about a 15-minute walking distance of the main street and about a five-minute car ride. While it is on a busy road, all of the bedrooms are located at the back of the house, so it is very quiet at night. The back gardens are very pretty, with a gazebo for your enjoyment.

Our hosts were Pauline and Mike, as Ed and Irene were on holiday.

We stayed in the “Elizabeth Room”, and the bed was quite comfortable.
On the side table there was a laminated leaflet, with information about Abacot Hall, and a request to put in a review to Trip Advisor. I am always reluctant to do that at the request of the owners; when I travel, I like to be the one to decide whether or not I will write a review.

An additional chair would have been handy in the room, as we spent one evening in while the rain pelted down outside. The lounge area downstairs does not have a TV or reading material, just a few “coffee table” books suggesting restaurants and things to do in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
We couldn’t find our hosts to ask for an extra chair.

We were a bit surprised when informed that for the second morning we would not be having breakfast in the B&B; our hosts had an appointment in Toronto. Pauline gave us a gift certificate for a local breakfast restaurant.
We expressed our disappointment at this and Pauline seemed a bit offended, responding to us by saying that we would be getting breakfast – just not at Abacot Hall.

While the restaurant was very nice, we like to stay at Bed and Breakfasts because we expect to have breakfast there!
This accommodation change was not communicated to us when we booked the package deal and it should have been.

We left a small fan in the room, and we’ve been waiting to see if anyone would get in touch with us concerning that; no one has. While it’s not worth the cost of shipping, (it was a small $10 fan) it would have been nice for them to let us know.

Overall, I would recommend Abacot Hall, but when we visit Niagara-on-the-Lake again, we will choose another B&B, as there are many available.

My wife and I recently stayed for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Our experience was great from start to finish. Everything from the reservation to arrival to our stay was well done. The property was well maintained, quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed a glass of wine and a Cuban cigar out back. The breakfast was awesome. A lot of places serve one standard breakfast, but Ed and Irene present a menu. Ed really goes to town in the kitchen. What we got the first day was so good we ordered it again...a seafood omelette for my wife and a ham and mushroom one for me. That combined with mamosas, fresh local fruit and all the fixings. Yum! Irene was very helpful with recommendations of things to do and places to go. Ed & Irene are wonderful hosts. Thanks for a great experience!

Room Tip: The King George room is the largest if available.

I stayed here with 3 friends in August 2012. We had bikes with us and Ed & Irene were very accommodating, letting us store them in their garage. They also kindly let us stay only one night as we were just passing through. As others have said, the place is very clean and comfortable and has a great balcony overlooking the backyard. Ed & Irene are great hosts, bending over backwards to help us select wineries for tastings. I would happily stay here again if given the chance.
