Owner description: Welcome to a fresh approach to Niagara wines – a balance between tradition and innovation created by two passionate brothers working together to bring out the best in Niagara grapes. Yannick and Greg have spent their life among the vines starting as children in the terraced vineyards of their grandfather and then on the 45 acre estate in Niagara for the past thirteen years.

My girlfriend and I visited Between the Lines on a small bicycle tour of the Niagara-on-the-Lake wine region this past late August weekend, making several tasting stops at establishments such as Peller Estates, Stratus, and Jackson-Triggs, to name a few. Out of all our experiences at the various vineyards, Between The Lines was easily one of our top 2 tasting experiences. The front chairs outside of the establishment were a wonderful place to kick back after our bike ride and savour Between The Line's sumptuous wines in a serene, tree-lined landscape.

This young winery is doing absolutely everything right. The building itself has a rustic, unvarnished charm about it that was very easy to appreciate after leaving NOTL's more populated and 'commercial' wineries. The genuine, lovely staff at Between The Lines knew how to speak knowledgeably about their different offerings when asked, but they also had the rare gift of knowing how to let the great-tasting wines speak for themselves. And they truly were great.

The Vidal icewine and Gewurtzramminer were standouts in a round-up of consistently exquisite wines. At $4.50 per 5 tastings, there is simply no better value to be found right now in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Do not forget Between The Lines when you tour the region this summer! Its charm, authenticity and great value situates it squarely in a class of its own.

I had read about this winery while planning a trip to NOTL, but forgot all about it until we drove past on the way to Inniskillin.

We met up with the rest of our group for lunch at Inniskillin, and after we tasted there we decided to give Between the Lines a try. Wow, am I glad we did!

Between the Lines may be a smaller, family run winery, but they make excellent wines. We bought their Vidal and the Vidal Ice Wine (at the best price we found for ice wine in NOTL). We chatted with the owner/winemaker for a bit, several in our group pour wines for local wineries so it was nice to talk to a winemaker who makes REAL ice wine! There's no such thing in Virginia, we have "ice wine style" ice wines where we freeze the grapes.

We loved this winery and will visit again if we ever make it back to NOTL. We loved that area and hope to make a return trip someday!

This new, small winery is very much a terroir to table experience. The small retail store is housed in front of the big red barn where the wine is produced and bottled. The winery sits in the vineyard, so you can have a pleasant wine tasting experience while gazing at the vineyards and the Niagara escarpment. The selection is limited, but excellent, with several lines already sold out.
I really enjoyed the Merlot, but have a weakness for a fine Gewurtztraminer, which they have. Also wonderful on a warm summer day is the dry, bright Rose. These VQA wines are all reasonably priced. This is a family run winery, and you can easily meet the winemaker, as he is probably pouring the wine for you. You drive by the family house on your way to the winery, and you can see all members of the family engaged in field, winery or retail work. The atmosphere is casual, friendly and not at all intimidating. The winery is located between Lines 5 and 6, hence the name, on Creek Road on your way from the village of St. Davids into historic Niagara on the Lake. Lots of easy parking, a public washroom, and both indoor and outdoor space for you to enjoy. Love the wine, but nice atmosphere and friendly hosts are also a bonus.
