Day-Trip from Toronto to Niagara Falls with Falls...

Enjoyed touring the fort especially seeing the college students dress in period clothing demonstrating what life was like 200 years ago. Soldiers training and parading was a particular favorite. Parking is free, as you receive a full discount on your parking fee when you enter the fort. Coupons can save you another $2. Downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake is within easy walking to shop, eat or have a pint at a pub.

Easy to go around and learn alot following the practical pamphlet. We loved the demonstrations done by the employees ( gun shooting, music etc.)

I really enjoyed the chance to see what it was like for the troops serving within a military outpost during a period of our joint British/Canadian past. The fort has been rebuilt to the almost exact design of the original and the staff enacting the many roles of the time certainly knew their facts. Forget what Hollywood and "The Star Spangled Banner" suggests about the war and emerse yourself in the reality of the time.

The young people who work there--as soldiers and interpreters are very helpful and friendly. We particularly liked the display of dinnerware unearthed near the officers' mess.

Visited here on a recent weekday and was pleasantly surprised that there were so many costumed docents. Most of them were very willing to talk about the fort when asked. Ft. George is quite large with several different buildings to see with a self guided brochure. It is a painless way to learn a little history. The admission price is a little high, but I had a discount coupon with the Niagara Adventure pass which helped a bit. I recommend visiting here when in NIOL.
