Olde Angel Inn Hotel and Restaurant
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 30, 2012

The menu is surprisingly broad, and is reminiscent of an English pub. Curry features heavily, and there are pub standards such as steak-and-kidney pie, toad-in-the-hole. There are even salads for the less pub oriented! The beer menu is quite extensive, and includes lots of interesting draughts. Friendly, helpful, and efficient service.

Room Tip: We were just in the restaurant, so I can't comment on the rooms.

My friends and I stayed in two rooms here in Oct. 2012. I stayed in the General's Quarters, which is two rooms connected. So we had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a sitting room.

First off, the location couldn't be better. It's a half block off Queen St., so it's near restaurants and shops. It's also across the street from the Stagecoach diner, which is about the only place to eat breakfast. Olde Angel no longer serves breakfast. Corks bar was also very close.

The bar at Olde Angel is also the go-to place on weekends for entertainment. It was packed both nights we were there and there was a singer or band each night. It's linked to the restaurant, so you can choose to sit close enough to hear the band, or in the back where it's quieter.

We were a bit disappointed by the rooms for the price we paid. It seems they wanted to keep up the antique vibe but the furniture really just seems old and outdated. It would be fine to keep an antique armoire or tables, but the couch, chairs and bedding need to be modern. For $250 a night, we should have a pillow top mattress that's not too noisy when you roll over and a decent couch to sit on. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it would be nice. The bathrooms have been updated and are very nice.

The staff here was great! They leave at night after the bar closes, but while they're on site they'll help you with anything you need, are happy to tell ghost stories and give you tourist tips. We went on a ghost walk and one of the staff members told us to try to get David for our tour guide because he's the best. We did snag David as our tour guide and he was great!

There is no parking on site but a pay lot is just around the corner. I think it was $6 to park 10 am to 6 pm, free at other times.

I would recommend this hotel for the location, but don't expect much from the rooms.

What a great find this place is! A friend of ours, familiar with Niagra on the Lake suggested this place to meet and eat, and by the end of the day we felt like family. We met at this bar/pub twice in one day and from the first moment the first four of our group bellied up to the bar, the service was warm and wonderful.

"Steph" the bartender was seriously knowledgeable about the Scotch selection, and was more than happy to hand out a sip or two of beer so I could pick one I liked. All of us loved the old fashioned ambiance of the old pub and it's warm hospitality and we decided to check out the town and meet back at the pub for dinner and a rendezvous with our friends.

When we came back, it was as if we were old returning friends, and even though she was getting off work, "Steph" regaled us with tales of the bar and her work there, and her "Cleveland" connection. When she was ready to leave for the day, she turned us over to the warm and friendly waitstaff who also took spectacular care of us. Even bringing out a delicious little dessert with a candle for our friends birthday.

The food was terrific! I ordered liver and onions...so easy to abuse, and it was clear that the chef had to be a liver lover! Moist, tender and served perfectly grilled onions and wonderful mashed potatoes, it was better than my mothers! My husband had the jerk chicken dinner and said he would have "licked the plate clean" had he not been in a restaurant. Everyone at the table raved about their food, from the great looking French Onion soup, to the escargot to the lamb shank, everything was excellent. What a delight.

We will drive from the U.S. JUST to visit the Old Angel Inn again.

We were recommended to eat dinner there by the locals, they said it was good food at a good price, the menu is very British and being I am from England I thought I would try the steak, onion and Guinness pie, it was excellent, all 4 of us got something different and we were all happy, one of the best meals I have had in a long time, would definatly recommend it, and will be returning next year for more pie and chips, .

This was the PERFECT place to end the night. We had friends visiting (October 3rd) from California and staying at the Shaw Club Hotel and Spa. We took them to the Olde Angel Inn because it was in walking distance and we were told that there would be live entertainment. There was a guitarist playing when we arrived and we were brought right away to the back room where we could still hear the music but could catch up with our friends.

I LOVE that the Angel has Mill Street Organic on tap. We all ordered pints and some food. Among the food ordered was their French onion soup (the best I've had in the city), butternut squash soup, chicken wings, escargot and the ploughman's lunch. Everything was fantastic, and the servers were very attentive, I wish I remembered their names.

The atmosphere is great, it was clean and there was lots of room for everyone even though there were a lot of people there. We stayed from about 9:30 to almost 1AM! A must for anyone looking for a good night out in Niagara on the Lake after the rest of the town has gone to bed.

We have just had dinner at this very quaint pub. It was pretty noisy so the waiter seated us iin a room at the back which was much quieter. This pub has a lot of atmosphere but the food was the standout. I had a Guinness pie, with fries and vegetables. The piemwas very tasty and the meat tender. My wife had the seafood pie with salad which was also very good. The service staff were efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: We are submitting a revie on the restaurant only.
