We enjoyed a wonderful stay for two nights at the Shaw Club. The Room was a superior Queen and it was clean and comfortable. It was a little on the small side, but it had seating, a desk and a refrigerator,a long with the normal amenities. The bath was very nice with a glass enclosed shower. We were in the newer part of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Vera was especially nice and helpful. The hotel is on the main street and is across from the Festival Theatre, so it is a short walk to almost everything in town. Zees restaurant is attached to the hotel and offers a large outdoor dining area in nice weather. It was chilly when we visited, so the porch area was enclosed in a transparent curtain, so you could still have some of the ambiance of outdoor dining while being inside. There is also a dining room. The food at Zees is great and we ate a wonderful lunch and dinner there as well as the included continental breakfast which was delicious. We will definitely return to the Shaw Club and Zees on our next visit to NOTL.

Room Tip: We stayed in the newer part of the hotel which we liked.

My sister and I just spent a wonderful three days for our midweek spa getaway. The hotel is located right across from the Shaw Festival Theater, in an historic property that has been completely modernized on the inside but is still very quaint on the outside. The attached restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was excellent. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Niagara-on-the-lake is in wine country and you can do day trips to various wineries in the area, attend the theater or just walk and shop at the local stores and galleries. The hotel is centrally located so everything is within walking distance. The spa staff were very knowledgeable and made our day at the spa an oasis of pampering and luxury.

Room Tip: only a two story hotel so rooms on second floor give a better view

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay for our 9th anniversary. Having never been to Niagara on the Lake, I relied on phone conversations with hotel staff and the internet. After talking with the hotel directly, I was told that the rooms we were looking to book were "traditional decor." When asking the differences between the room categories, I was told that the main difference was the other room categories were "contemporary design." When we arrived late that evening, we were led up a back staircase with stained carpet to a room that left me speechless. What we found was the room was completely disgusting and completely overpriced. The decor was less traditional and more early 80's - there were nail holes and pictures missing off the walls, the air conditioner was broken, stains on the carpet and walls, etc. We also walked by the spa we had previously booked and found it was (as another review put it) a store front like my local hairdresser. We immediately tried to cancel, but were told by the hotel manager they had no direct affiliation with the hotel and we would need to contact the spa in the morning. We did so the following morning and were told it was "their policy" to require a 24 hour cancellation notice. We explained that we were leaving the hotel and believed the entire stay had been mis-represented. We left a message for the manager who never calls us back. The same manager posting generic responses to other poor reviews on this site. They ended up charding us $450 for services we never got.

Room Tip: My best tip - avoid staying in this hotel and booking the spa.

Ryan M, General Manager at Shaw Club Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded October 1, 2012

We are very sorry for any disappointment but due to numerous inaccuracies with this review, we feel it necessary to properly account for what happened during this stay;
1. We take great pride in our guest satisfaction so when the guest told us of their dissatisfaction after checking in, we immediately upgraded them to a better room at no cost. If this was not satisfactory, it would have been good to know at the time so that we could have had the opportunity to try and make it right.
2. After reading this review, we immediately went to the annex to repair the nail holes and replace the missing pictures but could not find any missing art and there were no traces of holes in the walls.
3. Similarly with the air conditioning, all rooms in the annex have been checked and have perfect working air conditioners.
4. Although we do have a 48 hour cancellation period at the hotel, when the guest came down the next morning to say they did not want to stay a second night, we immediately released the room at no cost to them and then our guest service team called around town to try and help find them another room that would have been more to their liking. We successfully found them another hotel and booked it for the guest. Again, if this was still not satisfactory, it would have been good to know as we would have continued to do everything we could to make our guests happy.
5. Our spa has floor to ceiling glass walls and doors at our entrance. We are a small boutique spa with 3 treatment rooms and manicure and pedicure stations. We believe our size allows us to provide superior personalized service in a quiet, relaxed environment and if you read our reviews on TA you will see that our guests feel the same way.
6. The only time this guest tried to cancel their spa reservations was 40 minutes before their treatments. At this point all of the service staff was onsite awaiting their arrival so there was very little we could have done to cancel the services just minutes before they were scheduled to start.
7. At no time was this guest charged $450 for services. This is fraudulent.
8. At no time did this guest reach out to a general manager, guest service manager or anyone else on our team to discuss their experience. If they had, we would have responded immediately so that we could have done everything in our power to make this them happy.
We should note that we have sent a request to Trip Advisor asking that this review be removed due to the numerous inaccuracies and fraudulent information provided.
We want all readers to know that our top priority is to provide our guests with superior customer service and to always to our best to correct any issues that may arise. It is for this reason that we feel so disappointed when false reviews like this one are presented.

My daughter and I went to Niagara On the Lake (NOTL) last week to see "Ragtime" at the Shaw Festival Theatre - wonderful show - take it in if you have time! After much online research for a hotel, we decided to stay at Shaw Club - it offered a quaint exterior fitting for NOTL - but a wonderful modern interior. It is located a short 3 minute walk to everything in town without being in the middle of the hustle and bustle, so just park the car and enjoy a glass of wine!

Our check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was a king deluxe with pull out sofa, flat screen tv and corner sitting chair with ottoman located on the second floor overlooking the Shaw Festival Theatre. It was modern, sleek, clean, quiet, comfortable and spa like, We loved the rain shower, the tv in the bathroom and the Judith Jackson Spa products were heavenly.

Our package included a $50 gift cert for Zee's and a $25 gift cert for Shaw Spa. We took advantage of both and enjoyed a delicious dinner before going to the theatre, and also had a delightful continental breakfast (scones, yogurt with granola & fresh berries, toast & coffee) the next morning which was included with the room price. Sit on the outside deck at Zee's if you can - it is lovely! My daughter used the spa cert and got a fabulous deep tissue massage in the morning and hotel allowed us a late check out so she wouldn't be rushed.

All of the staff at the hotel, restaurant and spa were helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. I look forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: Stay in the main building for the modern room

This is an outstanding hotel that really understands accomodating each guest. I've seldom experienced so many people saying "yes" to each request. The staff was superb.
The location of the property in the wine country is fabulous and I can't say enough good things about Niagara on the Lake. Please treat yourself to a simply wonderful time at the Shaw Club!!!

We stayed at the Shaw Club for five nights in September while attending the Shaw Festival. We do this at least once a year and always enjoy our visit. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are compact and clean, the bathrooms modern and the king-size beds very comfortable. The in-house restaurant --Zees -- offers one of the best menus in town for lunch and dinner and also serves a good breakfast. The ground floor lounge adjacent to the lobby provides coffee, hot chocolate and tea throughout the day and evening and is a great place to relax with friends to discuss the plays being presented in the Festival. It is ideally located across from the Festival Theatre and is an easy walk away from the other two theatres in town. We would like to have a little more closet space, especially when staying for five days but intend to keep coming back. It is our favorite hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved the comfort, atmosphere, and spa-like decor. The hotel is just down the street from all of the downtown activity. We especially appreciated the complimentary continental breakfasts, the free in-room wifi, the water cooler down the hall from our room, and the rain shower in the bathroom. The hotel staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. We enjoyed dinner at Zee's one evening and the service was excellent.. our server did not charge us for the grilled calamari which we found to be a bit undercooked. One small negative was that we did hear some noise in the hall when late guests returned to their rooms and some road noise when the Shaw Festival theater emptied. But overall we would definitely recommend this hotel and we will stay there again.

Room Tip: Our room faced Wellington Street and we were happy with this room location.
