“Great Tour and Great Tea!”
Reviewed July 13, 2014

My boyfriend and i recently won a packet of vouchers for activities in the Buffalo Niagara Region, so we decided to drive up from our home in Buffalo to use the Niagara Parks Passes we won.

Our third stop of the day was to the McFarland House. We had tea/lunch in the Tea Room. It was wonderful. I highly recommend it. We ordered the "Afternoon Tea", a cheese plate, and a sandwich sampler. It was more than enough to feed 2 people. The "afternoon tea" came with 4 different sandwich triangles, 3 scones, a cupcake, a blondie, some fruit and a blueberry cake, along with some tea. I ordered the Bourbon Street Vanilla tea and my boyfriend got the Niagara Peach. Both were very delicious. The cheese plate came with 3 different cheeses, fruit, an assortment of crackers and some ice wine jelly. The sandwich sampler came with more of the same sandwiches on the afternoon tea platter, but we were glad for the extras, so we could each try 1 of the four variations. It was really lovely to sit in the green house in the afternoon sun sipping tea and watching the people go by. The food was wonderful, and the staff was great. I highly recommend stopping in for tea and cakes if you're visiting the area.

Afterwards we used our passes for the tour. Following the theme of the day we got another private tour. The young woman who was our tour guide was a great! She had so much information and you could tell she really loved history and sharing her knowledge with us.

The house is beautifully decorated and she had so much information not only about the people who lived in the house, and the time period but almost every item within the rooms. It took about 30 minutes and I really enjoyed myself.

I would recommend both the Tea Room and a tour of the house to anyone heading up to the Niagara Parks/Niagara on the Lake region.

“Perfect Tea Time!”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

We did not actually tour the house but went to afternoon tea in the conservatory there. This was a blissful afternoon for just the ladies with a gorgeous view of the park grounds out our window. The tea was lovely and well presented with a good selection of sandwiches, deserts, and scones. We recommend everyone picking their own tea flavor and sharing them,. We got both a traditional tea (2) and a cheese and fruit plate for the 4 of us to share. It was just the right amount and everything top drawer.

“Really well presented 1812 heritage”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

I am a visitor from Australia and we (my wife & l) wanted to explore 'lots of Niagara history' so we purchased the Niagara Heritage Trail Pass. The pass includes admission to four sites (Old Fort Erie, Laura Secord Homestead, McFarland House and Mackenzie Printery). What is amazing is how different and individual all 4 sites are.

Our guide brought McFarland House to life, it's history, it's changing fortunes in the war of 1812 and the immense detail 'condensed into an excellent tour'. It was great to walk through history with the added benefit of a helpful guide to 'add to the experience' explaining how so many of the exhibits were used in their 'day to day' usage.

We loved it. Whether it was Canada's heritage or just 'the engaging way history was brought to life', this historic homestead did it really well. We were impressed.

Well done McFarland House. We really enjoyed our visit.

“Nice historical home tour”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

This is a nice stop off along the Niagara Parkway, you can picnic there, bring goods you purchased at the road side stands and eat them in the adjoining park or purchse deserts in their tea room.Reservation encouraged. The tea room can be pricey but a lovely experience. The house tour is really nice and informative and the tour guides know about the history and life in that period.
