“Just like Home but Better”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

Mike and Shirley McBride, the new owners, have made a wonderful B & B even better. The rooms are tastefully, imaginatively and comfortably furnished.
The breakfast is healthy and delicious.
There are thoughtful touches everywhere- internet access, coffee and tea always available, and friendly but unobtrusive hosts.

Sadly, our schedule only allowed us one night at Merlot house. We're already planning on returning for a longer stay. Our hosts were delightful, the room ideal for our needs and beautifully appointed and the breakfast a perfect preparation for hitting wine country afterwards. We had access to the internet and a comfortable downstairs sitting room for scrounging drinks and snacks after returning from the theater. Our hosts were able to assist us in choosing wineries to visit and gave us discount cards making the tastings less expensive. We attended a play at the Shaw festival the night we arrived - although we had already made reservations for dinner, our hosts would have done that for us as well. All in all, a very welcoming place and a most reasonable price - even considering the currency difference between the US and Canada.

This was our first time at this B&B, we wanted to stay close to the Shaw Festival. The location is close to town in a very pretty and quiet area. We were in the very spacious MERLOT room, with a sitting area with fireplace, and a nice jacuzzi tub in the ensuite bathroom. A large kingsize 4-poster bed and 10' ceilings. The hosts are wonderful, warm, and very welcoming. We were close to loads of wineries and the hosts provided coupons for free tastings at many of the local wineries, and helped with dinner reservations. We slept great and had wonderful breakfasts.

Room Tip: All great rooms

We stayed at Merlot House at the recommendation of a friend and were very happy. The house is beautifully appointed with great attention to detail, and is located in a quiet area about a 10 minute walk to the Town Centre.

The breakfasts were generous, delicious and beautifully presented. Just what was needed to set us off on our day of wine tasting, shopping and touring.
Shirley and Michael were gracious hosts. During our stay they found out that we were celebrating an anniversary, and when we returned back to our room we found a gift of a bottle of local wine in our room. I later figured out that it was from the year of our marriage, and knowing the attention they pay, I don't think that was a coincidence.

Get the Merlot suite. King Size bed and Jacuzzi Tub for two.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back!

Room Tip: Book early to get the Merlot Suite.

We had a very comfortable, enjoyable stay at Merlot House, Niagara on the Lake. Michael and Shirley, our congenial hosts, were very welcoming and we loved the decor and the peaceful, relaxing ambience of the rooms. Breakfasts were scrumptious and we particularly enjoyed the Butler's Pantry.
The location is perfect - an easy, pleasant walk into town.
We would certainly like to return, and we will book early to avoid disappointment. Word will get around that this B. & B. is special!

Thanks and thank you for your kind hospitality with hot water bottle and heating pad.

Marylou and Adam, Stoney Creek, Ontario.

Room Tip: The Merlot is spacious with a double whirlpool

- parking available
- wonderful friendly hosts upgraded us to their best suite
- plentiful homemade breakfast which was delicious and even included freshly squeezed orange juice and an Italian chocolate to go with coffee!
- nice layout of B&B privatizing guest areas from host areas - only guest rooms upstairs all with ensuite and gas fireplace and cable tv (bottled water, although the tap water is potable, and wine glasses and games, such as backgammon and cards, provided in room), guest only dining room (with gas fireplace), and guest only lounge area with computer with complimentary internet and games and books AND guest only butler's pantry with sink, and coffee/tea/pop available at all times including a mini-fridge with complimentary small snacks like cheese, apples, and yogurt.
- very tastefully decorated with obvious attention to detail
- comfortable bed, thick towels and bathrobes as well as fragrant soap/shampoo/conditioner provided
- very clean
- hosts gave us a lovely parting gift (wine accessory) as well as free sample cards for various wineries
- good location on a quiet residential street, just around the corner from the Pillar and Post, walking distance to main street of town.
- it is clear that these hosts have travelled and understand what people want for a home away from home.
- would definitely recommend it to anyone and would go back again
