The Prince of Wales is a beautiful old hotel right in the heart of the Niagara-on-the-Lake downtown area. It has been kept in fabulous shape, and has a unique old style charm to it. This was our first stay. All of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly, and went out of their way to try to see if we needed anything; including whether we needed help with places we wanted to visit (for instance, the wineries, which they also gave us cards we could use for complimentary wine tastings). We decided to pay a little more for a "Superior" room, rather than the "Traditional", and it was gorgeous. We primarily chose "Superior" because those rooms are in the main part of the old hotel building, and we were very happy with it ... it had lots of character. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, so can not comment on that; but we did love the old style pub/tavern that is part of the hotel. We stopped there at the end of our evening before retiring. Again we encountered very friendly staff tending to the bar ... and a nice warm, friendly atmosphere where we struck up nice conversations with fellow travelers that were also staying at the hotel ... a very pleasant and relaxing experience.
My only "complaint" of the whole stay is by my own admission a trivial one ... but, it is a pet peeve of mine, so I am going to mention it. There is no excuse in this day and age for a hotel adding extra charges for room Internet access, especially when you are paying the high room rates this hotel is getting, and the fact that most cheap economy hotels don't even charge extra for WIFI these days.
But, since everything else at this place was so good, I'll forgive them this time for trying to "nickel and dime" me on the WIFI :-) ... and give them an enthusiastic recommendation as a place to stay if you are going to visit Niagara-on-the-Lake!

My husband and I wanted to celebrate my upcoming birthday. From the time of booking until checking out our experience was truly special. There was a snow storm and because they were concerned about our comfort and safety, they upgraded us at no addtional cost so we would be close to all of the amenities. How often does that happen? We were treated like we were the only guests there and we thank all for making my birthday one to remember!

We stayed at the Prince of Wales April 21, 2012. My friend and I were there celebrating our birthdays and they did ask when we were making reservations if it was for a special occasion. Upon arriving, the valet service (parking is $10, but valet is free) took our car, brought us an umbrella and took our luggage to our room. We had afternoon tea in the most wonderful room. It made us feel like we had gone back in time. The pastries were fantastic and there was a wonderful selection of teas. It was quite pricey, but we stayed for over 2 hours and never felt rushed. When we got to our room, they had left us a special birthday surprise which was so thoughtful. Our room was cozy and quaint and had a fireplace. There were pay per view movies and room service, so after a wonderful day, we were able to relax with a film in our room. We indulged in the spa, which was phenomenal. The service was great and the treatments were great.
In all our stay was amazing and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is celebrating anything, or who just wants to get away for a wonderful weekend.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room in the main building

With only 24 hours to escape, we planned our special day at the Prince of Wales. We had a marvelous time from the time we arrived until the moment we left. Our room was lovely with a high 4 poster bed, couch, 2 chairs, 2 desks and a beautiful bathroom with jetted tub. It was so quiet that you would have thought that we were the only ones on our wing. Our meals were excellent, which says a lot because we are VERY picky eaters. The service was excellent and the entire hotel was immaculate. We cannot wait to go back. Do noty hesitate to stay at this lovely propoerty.

My husband and I just had an incredible time at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The suite we had was superb. The staff was very friendly and helpful. No matter what they were working on, when we walked into the room they treated us like we were the most important people in the world. We plan to return soon.
