“Lady Windermere's Fan”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We loved the play, Lady Windermere's Fan. Oscar Wilde is brilliant with words - as current now as the day they were written. The story has a very interesting twist. The staging was amazing. The music - a mix of current and classic. The lighting and set design were brilliant - I loved how the works of visual artists of Oscar Wilde's time were interpreted into the set design. A must-see!!

“Great first Shaw experience - "Trifles"”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

As an introduction to the Shaw Festival - we decided to go with the Sunday morning matinee, which is only 50 minutes in length. Tickets are quite pricy as well, so this shorter show was a little more budget friendly for us.

The show actually included two short productions: "Trifles" and "A Wife for a Life". It was in the Courthouse theatre, which was quite cozy and intimate. No problems with the seating - they weren't super comfortable but they were by no means uncomfortable. It was a little dark in there though - one person tripped while trying to get to his seat.

What I liked best about both shows was how well the atmosphere/mood came across through great, believable acting, the sets and even the use of a 'campfire' scent when a character was tending the wood stove. It made you feel as if you were really there, within the story.

We both liked the first one "Trifles" better overall, but I have to say I was really impressed with the twist and the ending of "A Wife for a Life". It was absorbing and engaging - we'll definitely want to see more shows next time around!

“Light in the Piazza”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We loved seeing this play. The instrumental music was perfectly coordinated to the play's progression and added greatly. The directing was excellent. Each actor did a wonderful job. We attended a SF play four years ago and our experience was quite different then.. Neither of us could follow the plot and some of the dialogue was inaudible. What an improvement this year. We will come back sooner next time!

“Wonderful play”

The Shaw did a wonderful job with Guys and Dolls. The theatre is a great venue and the performance was as good as any Broadway troop.

“Wonderful small theatre venue - Royal George Theatre”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

We saw the play "Our Betters". Excellent English comedy. The theatre was close to our hotel, within walking distance. There was not a bad seat in the venue.
