“Charming stay in a historic house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

My boyfriend and I decided to stay at the Historic Lyons House when I had time off of work. We booked a wine tour through the owners as well. The house was amazing. It was built in 1835. It was very clean; my boyfriend has cat allergies and although the owners have two cats, he had zero allergy symptoms. The room itself was very elegantly decorated in rich colours, with a huge window and a four-post bed. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small, but that is just because it is obviously an addition and they had to use what space was available. The breakfasts were perfect. They always began with some sort of fruit and/or yogurt parfait, along with a main such as omelettes or French toast with sides and of course, unlimited coffee. The owners were very helpful in suggesting restaurants to dine locally, as well as providing coupons or discounts. We were also given tasting vouchers for area wineries, and suggestions on where to go as well. The owners were very hospitable: they even insisted that I borrow a coat one evening when it was quite windy, and my coat was not suitable. I will definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it to my family and friends. The next time, I will look into a spa retreat. The owner also frequents an area spa and can provide discounts there as well. Apparently from May 24 weekend through to the middle of October, this B&B is booked solid, so make your reservations now. You won't be disappointed!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this B & B. Howie and Jolanta were very friendly and great at giving advice on places to visit or eat at. Breakfast was fabulous each morning and was a great way to start each day. Everything was very well kept and made to make you as comfortable as possible. We arranged the wine tour through their website and it was a great day out. Highly recommend setting it up with them if you are looking to do one. We hadn't planned out much other than the winery tour so it was great to have Howie and Jolanta around to give us advice on great places to eat, what spa to go to and other wineries to visit. The first morning after chatting about our plans Howie set up a reservation for us so we wouldn't need to worry about it that night. All of their recommendations were great. They also provided us discount coupons for some tastings and when my wife and I went to the spa. The complimentary water in the upstairs fridge was also greatly appreciated between fighting a cold and all the wine tastings it got me through the weekend feeling pretty good. All in all in a great trip and would be happy to stay there again.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay!
My husband and I had a great time at this cute B & B.
I am fussy when it come to cleanliness and this was the most clean accomodation I have been in! The owners have not overlooked anything and the smallest details of comfort can be found in this home. It is a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere with a great balance between privacy and attentiveness from the owners. It was as though you were coming to visit friend you have not seen in a long time.
Fantastic food, relaxing, comfortable rooms with all the amenities you need.
The location is just perfect as you can walk to downtown Niagara On The Lake and not have to worry about the amount of wine consumed at local restaurants - the walk is only 5 mins away!
Breakfasts were fantastic - excellent food. You will not walk away hungry!
Also..loved the planning that they provided! We did no research prior to our trip and the owners were able to provide winery touring options and plenty of complimentary wine tasting vouchers!
Howie and Jolanta were amazing. This was truly a fantastic first B&B experience.

Room Tip: all 3 rooms are lovely! no one is better than the other!

This home offers tasteful and welcoming surroundings with a subdued elegance. The proprietors are lovely. They are welcoming, anxious to provide information and opinions without taking over a relaxed weekend of meandering and tasting.
The breakfasts were delicious and presented charmingly.
This is a wonderful opportunity to stay in the much loved home of two visual and hsopitality artists.

Awesome stay! The Lyons House is a beautiful historic house, just seconds away from downtown NOL. Howie and his lovely wife made our stay - they were very friendly, welcoming and helped us plan out all of the details of our stay. The breakfasts were excellent! Howie makes a mean eggs benedict. The room we stayed in had big windows with lots of light, a super comfortable bed and lots of complimentary bottled water which helped after over indulging in wine (my boyfriend made me write this last point :)). All in all, the Lyons House is a beautiful choice for a weekend getaway and we will for sure return again.

What can we say about this place!! This was a surprise birthday weekend and from the minute we walked through the door it was like coming home to visit family. Howie and Yolanta made you feel so welcomed that at the end of your stay you did not want to leave. Howie planned our package on meals, the Holiday House Tours and wineries. Everything met our expectations and beyond. The historic Lyons house is spectacular with a beautiful sitting room and dining room. Howie prepares an amazing breakfast to start off your day and fills you in on amazing details of the area. Fabulous yogurt with fruit and granola followed ham and cheese omelet, and delicous toast on first morning, followed by fresh fruit and amazing Eggs Benedict on the second morning. The finishing touch was hot chocolate from Yolanta when we finished our Candelight Walk on Friday evening. Rooms were beautiful, having an ensuite was convenient and the fireplace was an enjoyable and an added bonus. The Lyons House is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and shopping so you hardly need to use your car. So my suggestion is to not look any further as this B&B has it all. Can hardly wait to visit in the summer when their gardens are in bloom!!!

Loved this place! First time we stayed here. Host and Hostess, Howie and Yolanta were very friendly and helpful. They gave us tons of coupons to use for visiting wineries and dining. Howie was great at plotting our winery itinerary. The BnB is conveniently located close to the main street so hardly used the car. Rooms were comfortable. We had an ensuite bathroom which was convenient and a fireplace. Breakfast delicious! Water/juice/pop provided as an added courtesy in mini fridge in hall. A feeling of a home away from home if that is what you are looking for-we took advantage of low season rates! Defintely a must visit if you are going to Niagara on the Lake. While staying there-visit The Sanctuary Spa if you would like to add spa services to your visit-excellent service and staff! An enjoyable couples weekend for us!
