The Canterbury Inn was a lovely little inn, just a few short blocks from downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Upon our arrival, the owner suggested a few pubs in town, which were fabulous, along with a map that made navigation easy, even in the dark and blowing snow. A library/billiards room just off the lobby entertained us well on a frigid, snowy evening. The room was clean and tidy. It had a gas fireplace, which we enjoyed immensely. The bed was adequate, I suppose comfort level on par with what you would expect from a small, privately owned inn, nothing special. My wife found it uncomfortable; I would say tolerable, but firm. I had noted previous reviewers had complained about the quality of the breakfast, and I would have to say I agree with them. Although I would point out, they don't label themselves as a bed and breakfast. The coffee was strong and hot. There was bread and english muffins for toasting, a bowl of apples/bananas and some orange juice. The second morning there were a few more baked goods, probably store bought. I would have really appreciated something with a little protein, peanut butter, yogurt, hard broiled eggs or something along those lines. All in all, I think the quaint setting, plus the fireplace really made the experience.

My parents and I stayed here for a couple of nights, and were given a very pleasant, large, family room - very good value. We hadn't booked in advance, and were very pleased. We particularly enjoyed the little library room downstairs, with pool table.

We spent our third anniversary here last weekend, and had a wonderful time. In our experience, it is rare that a hotel priced so affordably delivers so well. Katie was always happy to answer questions, make recommendations, and describe the town accurately. The room was amazingly clean and well tended, considering that we never saw anyone perform any sort of housekeeping tasks. It was a pleasant 10 minute walk from the lakefront shopping/theater district, and a short drive from wineries and antiques. Our only minor criticism is that the bed was a bit hard, and my husband's sensitive back suffered a bit, but no more than at most hotels. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit Niagara-on-the-Lake.

ideal rooms were found at very short notice, one double and one family room, the rooms are furnished to a very good standard, the reception was welcoming and the breakfast staff friendly and helpful, continental breakfast. Beautiful gardens to rear of hotel. Good communal sitting areas indoors with books and pool table, a nice area to relax after a meal out at one of the restaurants nearby.
Niagra on the lake is a great location to visit the falls from well away from the bright lights and bustle of the falls area itself. Would definitely return here if we were back in the Niagra area and definitely return to the Canterbury Inn, which has visitors returning there year on year which says a lot for the establishment.

Canterbury Inn may be away from the high traffic area of NOTL but that has it's high points - namely that it's in quiet spot, with a lovely garden, with plenty of parking.

Only complaint was the breakfast offering - baked goods, bagels, etc. A bit boring after 3 days, but there is a fridge if you wish to bring in other options. Plenty of fresh coffee or tea available.

I'm planning to make this a regular stop.
