If you want a short hike (about an hour or so) in a beautiful area, the Niagara Glen Nature Area will fit the bill.

Take a trek down to the river, but be careful, wear some good footwear and take a walking stick for balance and help. There are some terrific rock overhangs to get pictures and tons of wildlife to observe on the way down to the whirlpools. Be extremely careful near the water as it is about 40 feet deep and full of treacherous but beautiful whirlpools. You'll often see guys fishing there for salmon and trout. Needless to say the trek up takes more time and energy than the trek down but is actually less dangerous. This outing is not recommended if raining or it has just rained as there are a of of slick surfaces to slip and slide on. Falling is not an option. (see what I just did there "Failing is not an option")

My husband and I enjoyed these trails and had a picnic in the designated eating area and it was really a beautiful place. I would only say to be careful with small children who like to run due to no barriers in certain areas of the trails.

This has always been one of my favourite places to go for a hike. Absolutely stunning scenery. The only complaint is that with the trail marking upgrade it's only gotten more confusing (because they chose new colours but the old ones are still up as markers).
