Strathaird Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #18 of 68 Niagara Falls B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 20, 2009

I stayed here with my husband for two nights.

Strathaird is a small B&B (three guest rooms I think) run by Tom and Val Jackson. The room we had was nice and both the bedroom and the bathroom were very clean.

The breakfast each morning was a treat - homemade muffins (still warm out of the oven!), full cooked breakfast - bacon, eggs etc.

We really didn't see much of Val, but Tom was a great host, very welcoming and helpful, recommending restaurants and attractions to us, and giving directions.

The B&B is about a 20 minute walk from Niagara Falls and is in a very quiet area. There are hotels (but not B&Bs so much) nearer the Falls, but these are around Clifton Hill which is gaudy and tacky, so I was quite happy to be staying further out.

There are a vast array of B&Bs on the same road, and surrounding roads, but this place has great reviews and is mentioned in guidebooks, and I can see why.

Its also good value for money.

Tom & Val were very warm and welcoming and great ambassadors for the local tourism (aside from Niagara Falls). Accommodation was clean and tidy. Breakfasts were hearty and plenty of food. The location was close to Via rail and within walking distance of the falls and attractions. Thanks Tom and Val. Cheers Carmel & Tim :-)

My boyfriend and I went to Niagara Falls during Civic Holiday, a busy weekend with high rates. The Straithaird Inn was the best I could find to satisfy both budget and quality, and I'm very glad that's where we went.

The house is very nice, located on a street with many other B&Bs about a 20-minute walk from Clifton Hill and maybe a 5-min walk down to the main road, IIRC. There was a pretty back garden area as well as a porch swing on the front porch. We were in the green room.

During the course of our trip, we found ourselves going on a few excursions throughout the town (the "real" town as well as the tourist areas). Tom was very helpful in giving us suggestions and could give directions to anywhere in town off the top of his head! Through the inn, we managed to get several good deals. The Adventure Pass - think that's what it's called - that covers pretty much all the attractions from Parks Niagara was available for around a dollar or two cheaper plus tax-free (13% saved). Coupons were also available for several restaurants, along with many local menus. Altogether, we saved money in a variety of ways by staying at Strathaird B&B.

The room itself was pretty cute. We definitely appreciated the wineglasses provided, as they inspired us to go out and get a bottle! In order to have an ensuite in our room (the green one), they had toconverted it from a closet, so be aware of that if you're a bather. The only thing we had an issue with was the temperature: it went from being stiflingly hot to chillingly cold over a period of time. I *think* that the central air was off at the time and we could've requested for it to be on, but by the time we got back, it was too late at night.

The breakfast in the morning was very nice. A variety of drinks, a fruit cup, delicious fresh muffins as well as the regular breakfast, which also came with tomato and baked beans. After checking out, Tom even let us leave our vehicle there (parking in peak season in Niagara Falls is pretty bad) for the day.

Altogether, I was very impressed. Staying here added a lot to our trip. I found the service amazing, appreciated the personal touches in the room, and most definitely enjoyed the breakfast. I would certainly recommend staying here.

The owners were very knid and generous. The rooms were very nicely decorated and clean. The en suite bathroom was to a good standard. The location is a short walk from both the Niagara Falls and the Whilpool. The owners were also very helpful, and in most cases they assisted in bookings not only for attractions but also for restaurant reservations. Breakfast is freshly cooked to your liking everyday and comes with numerous extras.

Overall highly reccommended and would gladly return!!!

From the moment we arrived we felt like we were visiting "old friends." Tom and Val's friendliness, hospitality and general knowledge of the area was fantastic as we only had 24 hours. We stayed in the Rose Room, the bed was the most comfortable we had slept in for many weeks. The room was a little on the small side but adequate as we left our main luggage downstairs. The general presentation of their home was second to none and the breakfast was wonderful. We have stayed in B&B's all over the world and this is one of the best. Once the awe of the Falls has passed, do get out into the countryside, it is beautiful. Oh, do have dinner at the Skylon Tower, a tad expensive but well worth the view. Should we ever get back to this part of the world we will stay with Tom and Val!
