This was an absolute wonderful food experience we enjoyed every minute and morsel. The wine was delicious and the food was out of this world. It was our first time but out friends 2nd time. Chris and Marty were great and a lot of fun. We will defiantly be back!

After making reservations I asked Chris for a special request for our family celebration and he happily obliged. The friendly, enthusiastic service and well-prepared food was enjoyed by all three generations of our family. Everything we had was delicious and nicely presented but not pretentious.

Thank you Chris (and Chris) for a truly memorable experience. The high ratings you've received are well-deserved.

The Weinkeller is between the top of Clifton Hill, full of tawdry tourist attractions, and a somewhat seedyy part of Niagara Falls. It's surrounded by chain restaurants and fast food places. We were attracted to the restaurant because of the strong reviews on Tripadvisor, but still, as we approached the area, we were pretty skeptical what we'd find. We needn't have been. This was a great restaurant, for a little less money than we expected. It's owned by two partners, and one of them is there every night. Both are named Chris. We talked to the on-duty Chris, who obviously has the right personality and the right passion for this kind of establishment. He explained that they had bought the place in January 2013, and had worked hard to fix it up for opening in September. It had been a raucous, dingy, moody sports bar. Now it's a really comfortable basement space with wooden beams supporting the ceiling and warm red brick flooring and wooden tables, no linens. The crowd was fairly intergenerational. Apparently it has gained traction pretty quickly, judging from all the positive reviews in Tripadviser and elsewhere. Our waitress was personable, attentive, efficient, and pretty charming. The restaurant uses local ingredients and the food is well prepared. Two of us had the harvest salad, tuna nicoise, and mussels for appetizers, and we both had the loin pork chop apple blackened, which the waitress recommended. It was as good as she said, tender and flavourful. Part of their shtick is that they homemake their wine from grapes grown in a local partner vineyard (they don't seem to want to say which one), and serve it on tap. Candidly -- the wine really wasn't the highlight of the meal. It was low in fruitiness, tannins, and acid -- not a lot of character, though drinkable. But you can get bottled wines instead if you want. Niagara Falls has been lucky to get this place, to offset (a little bit) all the chains and tourist traps.

We called for a reservation at the last minute and they held a table for us. When we arrived everyone seemed to know we were coming and they were so happy to see us. We felt like royalty! The service is impeccable and the food is wonderful. They make their own wine and it was delicious. We were wishing that they were able to sell it by the bottle!

We had a far better meal and experience than we would have gotten at any of the touristy cookie-cutter franchises (where the only nod to local traditions seems to be over-pricing, and the only usage of local ingredients seems to be tap water). We both had the 3-course fixed price meal - highlights were the chicken pot parcels, salmon bisque soup, pork loin chop with maple mustard, and steak with bernaise sauce. Service was professional, friendly and informative.

The in-house-vinted Merlot is excellent for the price. The on-draught Rickards beer selections are good, and are well priced. Perhaps by the summer tourist season Chris and his crew may be able to add a few more local craft beer selections (in addition to Oast).

Their online reservations system is also worth noting - the best I have ever seen!
