“Another pleasant stay, but time to review some operations”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

About a year ago, I posted my original review on this hotel, rating it as a very stable 4 star hotel. Our family stayed in this hotel again, in mid-April. For purpose of our trip, it was more than enough. Premises were clean and pleasant. It was great to relax after a busy day. Pool was clean and towel were replenished frequently; sauna was hot-n-dry - the way it is supposed to be.
Rooms were also clean, plenty of towels.
However, I notiI noticed some things that I don't remember in any of my previous stay. Some people in a pool area were having beer. Although I realize it is very difficult to police all premises; however, in areas like a swim-pool, there must be a close-circuit camera and things like these must be stopped as soon as noticed.
Breakfast - the selection of prepared meal was good, as usual for this hoter, but this year was the first time I didn't see a chef on Saturday, we were there at around 9am. We had better luck with chef on Sunday, but our service lady went missing and I couldn't get refill for my coffe ...
Overall, I like this place and I am hoping to stay there next time we visit Niagara Falls. But may be it is time for management to think about "spicing it up" a bit.

P.S.
I read some reviewers complained about $12/day parking. I am just wondeing, have they found any in/out parking at any 4-star hotel in Niagara Falls that would be cheaper that this?...

We traveled with our two year old daughter. The room was very clean, great view of Niagara Falls. Our daughter loved the pool. It was wonderful. The next time we return to Niagara Falls, we will return to this hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The warm welcome cookies were nice, as were the front desk staff. Our 17th floor room had a great view of the American Falls, and a bit of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls if you get close to the window and look to the side. (The Marriott Hotels have more direct views of the Canadian Falls.)

We told the hotel in advance that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and would like a room with falls view, highest floor possible, away from the elevators. The hotel accommodated our request and assigned us a room with 2 comfy queen beds, American Falls view, and a heart-shaped towel swans on one of the beds. Our large room also featured quality linens, free Wi-fi internet access, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, thick towels and a small refrigerator. There is no safe in the room which was not a problem for us. We also didn't hear our neighbors above or on either side of our room. We did not use the gym, pool or hot tub, nor did we eat at the hotel's Starbucks or Buchanans Chophouse.

We purchased the Niagara Falls Adventure Pass online and printed the tickets at the business center for free. Check with the business center for the option to email your document and print direct to the printer. Parking was $12 per night vs. $20 at other hotels. There are WEGO bus stops outside the hotel and across the street at the Ramada (2-day WEGO passes are included in the Adventure Pass). For breakfast, the IHOP at the Ramada is surprisingly expensive considering it's an IHOP! We instead walked a block further and ate at the Perkins Restaurant (think Denny's) attached to the Wyndham Hotel. From there, it's a short walk to the Table Rock area to start our Adventure Pass activities.

The Maid of the Mist is a must-do especially if you get a fearless captain who brings the boat really close to the falls. In spite getting very wet, we would have paid extra to go again if we had more time. The White Water Walk is about 3.5 km or 30-min walk from the Maid of the Mist so the WEGO bus may be a better option for some. The Journey Behind the Falls was interesting even though the bottom viewing area still was closed. Niagara's Fury is a bit cheesy. The "Ice Age" like video portion was amusing and the sensory portion was interesting. You can ask the attendant to put you in the area where the floor does not move and/or where you won't get wet.

Our room was a great size for our family of 5. We had a nice view of the falls. The best part for my family was the pool! They had 2 swimming areas, one for families, another for adults only. Also had a nice hot tub. We loved the decor, felt like a lodge. Warm cookies, bonus!

I was looking forward to a relaxing 2 days in what was advertised as a resort and spa hotel away from the noise of Clifton Hill.

Good stuff: The property is very nice and well decorated. Parking is a bit high ($12 a day) but this is Niagara Falls and there isn't much free parking around so we added that to the room charge. The beds were heavenly, pillows, comforter and bedsheets were of the highest qualify, plus free wifi and fridge in the room. Starbucks in lobby and a very nice pool area. Fairly close to most attractions in the area, but you might still need a car to get around. We had a partial view of the water and the Skylon tower from our room.

Bad stuff: Check in had a few hiccups. No cookies at check in. I know this is not a major issue but we had a long drive and were looking forward to a little snack and a coffee before settling in. Did not happen. There was no explanation on how the parking works and what we need to display on the dashboard of the car. We had to return to the front desk, bags and all, and wait in line again to ask about the parking pass so we don't get towed. The hotel seemed popular with families with kids. This is just a warning to those mislead by the name of the hotel and the heavily advertised Aveda spa in the lobby. There were kids running up and down the hallway outside our door shrieking until the late hours of the night. The pool area was also dominated by kids and flotation devices. If you plan to book a nice relaxing massage at the Aveda spa and finish it off with a nice soak in the hot tub, keep that in mind. The pool deck was dirty as people were allowed in street shoes sitting around having coffee.

Overall, this hotel has a lot of potential to position itself as a relaxing romantic Niagara Falls getaway as it has the right amenities for it, but there's a disconnect between what it wants to be, and what it actually is. I would return only if I got a crazy deal on the room and would use it only to sleep and visit the area. And bring my own box of chocolate chip cookies.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of our property. We appreciate all feedback. Please note that customer mix does vary by time of year and special events in Niagara area. It appears your stay may have overlapped with Spring break of some elementary schools in border USA states. We are sorry to hear that we were out of cookies at your time of arrival, This can happen from time to time, but be assured that you can request cookies at any point during your stay. I am thinking that the families may have wiped us out until more were baked. We look forward to the opportunity at welcoming you back to the resort in the future.
