“American Falls View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2012

We booked a room with falls view and we got a room with falls view. What a nice view! Plus the fireworks on friday night! Everything was fine in this hotel, incl. the breakfast, which was as usual in the many hotels we stayed during our 3 weeks vacation in Quebec/Ontario: nothing special, but OK. The room tax was significantly rising the price of the room! But over all, we were absolutely satisfied with our stay!

Room Tip: If you want to have a room with falls view, you also must order a respective room and not hope for i...

This is probably the worst I have seen in a hotel room. It's my birthday celebration with my best friends and when we checked in we found hair balls in the washroom. When we asked for an upgrade, all we got was a different room and nothing. I haven't seen something like this ever before, not sure if I would be back again.

We always try to end our fall road trip vacations with a stay at the Doubletree, before returning home and to reality. The hotel is just 2 blocks (leisurely 5 minute stroll) from the Fallsview Casino, 5 blocks to the falls (down a hill). Enough that the area is very quiet. On our last stay, a weekend, several hockey teams stayed at the same hotel (some tournament). Except for the pool area having more people than usual, the hotel still seemed almost empty - relaxing and restful. As to some other reviews, yes there is 'destination marketing fee', however that's a regional charge on all hotel stays, not just here, there is HST (combined federal, provincial sales taxes), if you're Canadian you should know about that and yes there is a $12.00 parking fee (the other hotels in the area charge $25.00 - I know, I've stayed at them also). You can stay at other area hotels, but you will pay more (at some A LOT more). I still think, for location, amenities and setting, this place is a good deal.

Room Tip: Take a king suite on one of the higher floors - they are located at the corners of the building - yo...

It is so nice to hear that you are a repeat guest and continue to enjoy your stay with us. Your comments will be so helpful to other guests travelling to the area. Glad you mentioned the DMDF fee as it is part of the fees at most establishments in Niagara Falls and surrounding areas. It is not uncommon for most tourist cities to have a some kind of a fee to help support tourism activities for the enjoyment or our visitors. The parking fee is also quite common, as you mentioned and at $12 is the lowest in this area. This hotel is not known as a hockey team destination, however we do have some teams who choose to stay here every year and are very respectful of our other guests. I do hope that you will be able to come back and visit us again. Be sure to let the agents know you are a returning guest.

We've stayed here and it reminded us of the West Coast. Great lobby and pool. We had a nice time at the dinner and used the voucher that came with the room. My sister is thinking of going to the Falls this weekend and I'm recommending this to her because it's very well priced for being so nice.

Room was vey clean, short walk to the Casino and Falls. Indoor pool is small and the excercise room has cross trainers and treadmills but only a chest press machine and some dumb bells for strength training. Nothing for legs or back.

Restaurant on site. Okay food, fairly pricey. No bar or night life in the hotel.

My daughter and I spent one night at the Doubletree in NF. The price was right and the view was awesome. The hotel is situated a few streets back from the falls so the view of the American Falls includes the cityscape as well. The hotel room was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The lobby is a great place to sit and relax. The ambience is great.

I highly recommend a stay at the Doubletree while in Niagara Falls.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the falls. It is worth the extra few dollars you pay. Also, ask for a h...

This was a business trip to attend a conference at the hotel, extended through the week-end for personal reasons.

It is an attractive, clean hotel, as you might expect from a Hilton Doubletree property: pleasant rooms and amenities, nice lobby, attractive decor, spa on site, Starbucks in the Lobby.

(As an aside, both the towel rack and the shower curtain rod in our room were loose from the wall and bent downwards, likely due to being used as grab bars getting in and out of the slippery tub/shower.)

Don't be fooled by the advertised prices for the hotel. There is a mandatory $12 per night parking fee for everyone with a car. This is not valet parking; this is not covered parking; it is self parking, outdoors and unsecured. On busy nights, there is not enough parking and a secondary lot down the street is offered, also for $12 per night. It is clearly just a cash grab.

At check-in, unlike most hotels which swipe a credit card as a pre-authorization for the stay, we were asked to pay in advance not only for the cost of the room and the parking fee but, in addition, a $50/night fee for possible "incidental expenses" that we might incur during our stay. It felt like the hotel feared that we would abscond during the night without paying our bill. How insulting.

When we objected to this full advance payment, the solution from the Manager was that the incidentals fees would be waived but in return the hotel would turn off the phone and the pay TV service in our room, so there was no risk that we would actually use them. Good grief.

The final irritant is that our bill at check-out included a 'destination marketing fee' plus HST that had not been disclosed by anyone in advance. (I imagine that all the Niagara Falls hotels charge this fee, which is wrong-headed from the start.)

So, in summary, the hotel itself is pretty good. The hotel policies are bad and the hotel charges are downright ugly.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a room with a close view of the Falls, choose another hotel downtown.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on the hotel, your feedback is appreciated. We regret to learn of your disappointment and apologize for any short comings or miscommunication on our part. If a valid credit card is provided at the time of check-in, a swipe is done with a pre-authorization for the room total and $50 additional for incidentals. This is quite typical of any hotel. It is only if the credit card is declined that the hotel requires payment at time of check-in via another form of payment such as cash or debit card. Not being able to know your exact file I can not advise on your specifics with dollar amounts. Feel free to contact us at the resort and we can investigate further. Again, we are sorry for any failures which may have contributed to your experience. We appreciate you also sharing "the good".
