A trip to Niagara Falls, ON Canada is not complete unless you spend the money and walk around the observation deck at the Skylon Tower. The cost is so cheap and there's no limit of time you can spend while you're either inside or outside. I suggest you go at night so you can see ALL of the Falls lit up in the multiple projected lights. Although we didn't, you can also make reservations and eat dinner at the restaurant just below the observation deck!!

While staying in Niagara Falls, we visited the Skylon Tower. It’s 775 feet high and has an elevator that ascends to the top but on the OUTSIDE of the Tower so you get amazing views all the way up (the same happens on the way down)!

The elevator was operated by a lovely lady who gave us loads of facts and figures and was really receptive to any questions (should you have any). The lift takes just under a minute to get to the top and once there, you can walk round the inside and the outside of it. There’s a chain-linked fence but you are able to ‘poke’ your camera easily through the gaps to get some amazing aerial photos of both of the ‘Falls’ and surrounding area.

There is a restaurant at the top but we didn’t dine and there is also a great shop which sells some exclusive Skylon Tower merchandise at very reasonable prices

Before we had entered the elevator, we had our photos taken against a ‘screen’ and when we left, we went to the photo area and saw that our photos which had been super-imposed in front of ‘day’ and ‘night’ views of the Niagara region as well as some comical photos (us going over the ‘Falls’ in a barrel!!). We only bought a couple of photos and when we arrived home, we did regret our decision and wished we had bought more. If you contact the Skylon Tower, they will transfer you to their photographic department and we were able to order our comical photos and they were sent to us via email at the bargain price of $3 Canadian per photo!

You can get some coupons for reduced admission to the Skylon Tower by either searching on-line under the many Niagara Falls coupon sites or, upon arrival in Niagara Falls, the airport has lots of fliers and magazines which contain coupons (or in your Hotel as ours did).

The view is awesome! BUT the elevators are very old & appear to be in worn out condition, which was concerning. The doors slammed shut & then bounced a bit before staying shut. We were glad to make it back down. The food is okay, but nothing very interesting.

To start we went to the tower for lunch at the buffet, when we got there , there were no plates to get any food, it took 15 mins to get noticed by a server who was very overwhelmed being only two servers for the whole restaurant. My 86 year old grandmother decided to use the restroom after a few minutes of being there only to almost get stuck in the stall because there was no handicap bathroom. We were told later that a handicap room existed on the other side of the restaurant but there were no signs or staff that told us before the event. If you want to see the view from the tower it is good, but do not eat at the restaurant unless you want to be disappointed.

Not sure why they charge so much? Didn't really see much, kind of run down inside and out, boring, even the souvenir shops were tacky
