“Great Value”
Reviewed October 23, 2009

We stayed at this hotel as a package deal. Dinner coupons and a fallsview and hot-tub upgrade. It was a great deal and we would go again. One thing that was shcoking was the menu prices of one of thier on-site restraurants.

Nice hotel with excellent views of the Falls from the Canadian side. The only problem was the shiny Minolta sign in our peripheral vision taking away some of the breathtaking views. Hotel is nicely located with most eating places within walking distance and has the tram right outside its entrance to go down to the riverfront. Breakfast is included and is quite a lavish spread. I traveled with two young boys (11 and 13) and they enjoyed the stay in the whirlpool room.

We spent two nights in this hotel following a trip across the US. It is a nice property with a spectacular lobby, luxurious public areas, ample check-in staff, and a truly spectacular hot cooked-to-order breakfast.

However, when discussing our experience I am reminded of Mark Twain's comments following his visit to Niagara Falls, He noted that the fishing was poor regardless of where he fished, but that prices were not exorbitant. Mr. Twain would be aghast were he to stay at the Embassy Suites.

Our initial rate quote was above our budget, but we elected to pay extra so we could see the falls from our room. Only after we arrived did we discover that a "water" view did not include a "falls" view, which was another $30, and another $20 to be able to see both falls. We arrived at mid-night without any bottled water left. I told everyone to just use the water in the room until I read the tag that said that the one liter of water was $9! When we made our reservations no one mentioned that there was no parking available anywhere and valet parking was $30/day. Even the people who managed the check-in counter had jars with tip requests. There was a TGI Fridays in the hotel that was open 24 hours a day. We had two cocktails for a total of $35, and did not return. I broke open the emergency food supplies and we feasted on trail mix, jerky, airline cookies and Starbursts.

As with all Hilton properties there was an additional charge for use of internet, and the service was so old that we needed an ethernet cable. Fortunately the hotel had one because we have not traveled with one of these for years. We travel with three laptops, and it was inconvenient to be limited to only one internet connection.

The hotel rooms themselves appeared a bit dated. Our room had a whirlpool tub, but we were not impressed with the window between the bedroom and bathroom that caused a great deal of light for a person attempting to sleep while someone else was in the bathroom. The furniture was light oak and seemed like it would have been happier in the 1970s. Unlike our other experiences on this trip with Embassy Suites the two televisions were very old and had poor pictures.

The manager's reception during the evening was nice, and there were enough healthy snacks to meet the needs of our children. We elected to eat at The Keg located next to the room where the reception was held. They permitted us to use our free drink coupons at the reception area and carry the beverages into the restaurant, which we appreciated.

The young children in our family group spent a very pleasant afternoon in the swimming pool area, which seemed to be designed to meet the needs of serious swimmers along with toddlers.

We enjoyed our experience at this hotel, and we would stay there again. I suspect that the price gouging is typical of everything in the area. If you are aware that you can reduce the $30 parking charge to $20 by managing your own luggage you can knock off $10/night. I suspect I would still pay the outrageous sum of $245/night for the hotel room so we had a view of the falls. I cannot imagine why one would go to Niagara Falls if not to look at the falls. Just be warned to bring your own snacks and beverages to store in the convenient refrigerator in your guest room. Enjoy a hearty breakfast and take a banana for a mid-afternoon snack because it will be the only "free" thing you get at this hotel. Do not be intimidated into placing dollar bills into every out-stretched hand, and enjoy your splurge.

I suspect that this hotel is one of the best in the area of the falls.

When trying to find the best view of the falls we were advised to travel to the Canadian side of the horseshoe falls. The Embassy Suites is the nearest to the Horseshoe and we had a brilliant room on the 35th floor. The room was well appointed and had everything you could need. The breakfast buffet was chaotic but again the restaurant gives another excellent view of the falls. All in all a well planned hotel and ticked all our boxes.

Over looking the Canadian Falls, we declined the $30.00 upgrade to view both sets of falls, but were very happy with what we had. We kept our window open at night, so we could listen to the roar of them. The rooms are very large, with seperate jacuzzi tubs, and we received a coupon for a free drink, $40.00 off our meal at the Keg (which is in the hotel and Yes - overlooks the falls) and then a free hot breakfast. The location has a walk way that leads you right down to the falls (look for it). The only negative we had is that parking is at a premium at $30.00 for the valet - which is pretty much a must - and in room internet was pricey - (I just relied on my blackberry for emails).

We celebrated our 37th anniversary at the Embassy Fallsview were asked if wanted to upgraded to the 34th floor for $25. We did and it was well worth it! The view was breathtaking and the room was spotless! We were given passes for the shuttle, Dave and Busters, breakfast for both days we stayed and a snack which was more than a snack. The shuttle was a great way to get from one attraction to the other, the breakfasts were unbelievably great with a wonderful view and we didn't think we'd enjoy Dave and Busters as we're older, but we had a great time there too. We enjoyed a dinner at the hotel restaurant which started out with the prime rib being slightly overdone, but was promptly corrected with a full plate replacement and a complimentary dessert which was perfect. We are looking forward to going back soon and the only thing I would change is parking down the street for only $5 instead of $20 per day. There was no refrigerator in the room, which would have been nice. I will absolutely recommend this great hotel to anyone visiting the Falls.

For our 15th wedding anniversary, we chose to do a road trip from Missouri to Niagara Falls. We were originally scheduled to arrive on August 30, but due to my husband's work schedule, the day we were to leave Missouri, we had to delay our arrival date by one day. I called the hotel directly and was told that we could change our reservation this one and only time. I was grateful, but a bit alarmed at the rudeness of the associate I spoke with on the phone.

We arrived on August 31 and stayed for two nights, using the "Two Night Special" that was listed on the hotels website. Upon arrival, we took our bags, although there are plenty of bellhops willing to assist. You MUST do valet parking. The only option you really have, that we didn't know before we went was, there are TWO types of Valet Parking...and they really don't explain them to you. You can pay $20 a night and your car is parked Off-Site a few blocks away in a guarded lot. OR you can pay $30 a night and your car is under the hotel in the garage. If you do the $20 valet parking, you will be shuttled to and from your vehicle on a shuttle bus.

Check-in was a breeze at the hotel. We had reserved a room on the 14-21 floor I believe, with a view of the Canadian Falls. However, upon arrival, my husband upgraded us to a room on the 40th floor, with a jacuzzi, fireplace and a view of the American, Bridal Veil and the Canadian Falls. Absolutely Stunning!!!

Also with our room package came a $40 credit to one of three restaurants, two at the hotel and an Italian one across the street; A HUGE breakfast buffet each morning (and I mean HUGE - everything you could possibly want and more); and a cocktail reception each day with plenty of snack type foods, fruit, cheese, veggies, nachos and some sweets and drinks.

The hotel was a short walk from a casino; and a bit more of a walk to the famous Clifton Hill....definitely a place for kids.

Falls Incline Railway is right below the hotel, so we walked down there to check things out. Lots of touristy stuff, shops, etc. They also have a special for $29.95 (I think) that gives you access to Maid of the Mist; Journey Behind the Falls; White Water Walk and unlimited access to the rail and tram system, plus a movie - IMAX style on the making of the Falls. You can also get that same deal at several other locations in the area. We had asked the Concierge at the hotel about that package and she instantly slammed the deal and the operators saying that we would never be able to do it all because the lines were so long and it would take forever. HOWEVER, she had a deal for like $139 that would put us on a BUS and take us to all of the same attractions, PLUS the butterfly conservatory, and several others that we had no interest in. AND we would also get priority boarding at all of the attractions. This whole set up of theirs would take like five or six hours, way more time then I wanted to spend at places I didn't want to see anyway. Knowing we were there at the end of the busy season and there weren't a lot of people, we took the cheaper deal and did not regret it. Yes, we walked to EVERYTHING, but we like to hike. I believe it took us maybe two hours to do all of the above. And that includes walking to almost all of it. We took the bus to the White Water Walk.

One of our biggest disappointments was an attraction that NO ONE could tell us what it was called. It was located directly across from the Maid of the Mist and looked like stairs and platforms going up behind some falls. It was on the American side and had LOTS OF PEOPLE there. We were thinking that it was the White Water Walk, but a lady on that tour told us it was Cave of the Winds. I was really frustrated that people on the Canadian side would not tell people what the attraction was. We asked several and heard others ask as well, but the Canadians PRETENDED they had no clue what the attraction was. Overall, I think it was very much like Journey Behind the Falls, which I loved!!! My favorite attraction in our package was the movie on the making of the falls...YOU WILL GET WET!!!!! But it is so much fun.

We ate at the Keg for dinner one night. The service was impeccable, but I honestly didn't think the food held a candle to "Outback Steakhouse". The breakfast buffet on the other hand...FABULOUS!!!! I wish every hotel had a setup like that. I had a made-to-order omelet each morning. But you could have gotten anything at the made-to-order station. You didn't have to get the food off the buffet line. My husband got his from the buffet line and did not have any problems with cold food. It was prepared well and was hot.

We had no issues with any of the staff people other than the pushy concierge lady. Everyone we encountered at the hotel was extremely polite and helpful. If you stay here on your trip, you will not regret it.
