“Spectacular views but the decor got stuck in the 80s”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

The views of Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls are first rate. But the hotel is dated. The hallways are dingy, torn wallpaper, stained and worn carpet. The room has 20 watt bulbs (OK for romance, I guess, but not too good for reading or packing); bath is tiny, poor lighting, old and rickety fixtures. Heart shaped tub is cute, although it's also the shower stall, which isn't too convenient. Front desk clerk was not especially friendly. My favorite part: towel art featuring two swans. And I hate being nickled and dimed, paying extra for parking ($15 and not too convenient) and Internet ($10). Rates seemed about the same for the new Embassy Suites next door and Embassy Suites (I'm assuming) includes breakfast, parking and Internet. All in all, it's an okay quality room with a fabulous view. But next time, I'll book elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed here July 1st long weekend. King room with jet tub, 18th floor. Beautiful view of the falls. Large windows. Nice to watch the fireworks at night. Front desk staff very helpful, especially Nicole, and her Dad who drives the shuttle! They went above and beyond to ensure we had a enjoyable stay! Awesome people, truly client orientated, and really seemed to enjoy their jobs.

Rooms could use some " updating", but they were clean. Overall enjoyed our stay here, and would consider again.

The location is great (easy walking to the Falls and downtown area restaurants....and will be better when the outdoor escalator is back working). We were there for a reunion and no major complaints. However, the breakfast at Applebees next door (it was included as per negotiations with our group) was not up to the standards we have come to expect from that chain. Also, parking is expensive but frankly, this is what you pay close by to a world renown attraction. You could find a cheaper lot next door but the security might not be as good.

The Oakes have the best view of the falls in Niagara. Having said that, the hotel needs more than freshening up.. It really needs new carpeting, fresh bed linens, new furniture and they still have tube televisions with few stations. (not HD). If taking the meal package, the restaurant offered is Remingtons. It is excellent! Breakfast at Applebees is inferior, and I would skip it, though it is included in the package price.

Room Tip: I would only recommend if the view is important to you.

We booked this hotel several times this past winter for a break. The rooms each time were good, with a view of the falls each time. The pool was refreshing & we ate at Remingtons restaurant & Perkins which are both affiliated with the hotel. All this for 115.00 plus parking!

We booked a two night stay at this hotel as part of a travel package. We were guaranteed a fall view and we were satisfied with the view from our window despite being at a lower floor (7th floor). The room was clean. Check in was courteous and efficient. Those are the only positive comments I can make about this hotel.
What is frustrating is that this property has the potential to be so much better, it feels like the management just wants to give the basics with no effort. The overall feeling in this hotel is that it is gray, worn and stark. The hotel lobby has no plants, flowers or other décor apart from a wall sculpture of a waterfall. I did not see any display of tourist brochures. The hallways were worn and dark. My husband used the pool and hot tub and found it small but clean.
Our room continued the worn and gray theme. The bathroom was very cramped with tub and toilet in one very dark room and the sink outside of that in the room. The mattresses on the beds were clearly old and some of the bedding torn. The one chair in the room had very saggy springs and you sank deeply into it when sitting. The television was ancient and had very limited free channels - mostly old 1960s comedy show re-runs. There was no bar fridge, only a coffee maker.
There was a $15 cost for parking and it was the only hotel I have stayed at in years that did not provide free Wi-Fi. Of course, they did not provide complementary breakfast.
We chose this hotel solely because of a package deal that included dinner at Remington's Steakhouse and free wine tasting at nearby wineries. The meal at Remington's included free shuttle service which was very efficient. The food and service at Remington's was superb. Our meal consisted of appetizer, dinner, dessert and coffee - all of which was excellently prepared. The wine tastings were also very enjoyable.
I would not recommend booking this hotel unless you have a very good package deal. If you only plan to use the room to sleep in it would be acceptable but there are several other hotels in the area that appear to be far superior for the price.

Room Tip: For a good view of the falls, be above the 8th floor

Recently we booked two nights at this hotel, room with two double beds. We knew we were not going to overlook the falls. The room was in the old annex and although regular size it was very similar in layout to the chain hotels who charge considerably lower. The bathroom was tiny, allowing only one person at a time to venture into it. There was a sink and mirror outside of the bathroom. The bathtub was an insert and the base gave onto your feet as you climbed in for a shower. granted the room was clean. Normally in other hotels the Ice bucket comes with a plastic cover. There was none. Staff were courteous and we were offered an upgrade for$69 which provides us with access to a steakhouse and a casino. Supposed value $149. Breakfast vouchers could be pre purchased for Applebys. No real bargain and parking was not free. Because we walked around at night we were able to find parking in their parking lot. I would not be using this facility again

Room Tip: If you want to see the falls you will be in the tower. Not sure what the rooms are like but be prepa...
