The falls view is nice but I really wanted more as far as hearing the water but that's just me. The hotel is dated. The hotel room was somewhat clean but the common areas were dirty such as windows. I only stayed one night so it did not bother us too much. I would have stayed nicer if we stayed for more than one night. The lobby is small and the bathroom is small. Tv is old like everything else at the place. If you want an affordable falls view room for one or two nights then stay here. If you are staying longer please stay elsewhere.

Location location - this hotel has rooms directly overlooking the falls and that is the best part of the hotel, the view. The carpets in the hallway are worn, the bedspreads look like they're from the 70's, we had a broken window in our room. The whole room was fairly shabby & basic overall. Great view though and the staff was perfectly polite. We had a free shuttle to the restaurant as part of a dinner & overnight package we purchased. Also included was an excellent full breakfast at the restaurant next door. So stay there, but just know you are paying for the view only.

Room Tip: If you book higher up you get the view of the falls; lower down and you might get a nicer room with...

We just came back from an overnight special we purchased at the Oakes Hotel. We purchased a special from TravelZoo, the special was for $115, and included the room, 4 winery tastings, a chocolate factory tour, $50 to spend at Seneca Casino in the States, dinner at Remington's Steak House and breakfast at Appleby's. By the time we upgraded our room to a King ($30), paid for parking and taxes at the hotel ($45) and had a drink with dinner and tip ($25) we spent another $100.00. All and all still not too bad $200 for a night in Niagara Falls with dinner and a hot breakfast. If you are thinking of doing this deal let me break it down for you a bit;

The Oakes Hotel - the room was nice, not five start by any means, the lobby and halls are a little warn, the room was upgraded recently (last 5 years) and was very large and very clean, the view of the falls was amazing and you would pay double or more at any of the other near by hotels for that view. A nice over night stay for a decent price. Really didn't like that we had to pay to park in their parking lot, that is not valet, there is no free parking. It is located right beside the Fallsview Casino. The staff was not helpful at all, I am sure 3/4 of the guest were on some sort of deal and the staff seemed annoyed by this.

The wine tasting - The hotel did not supply any directions or information on the winery's (or anything else) thankfully I had done my homework. It was advertised as Tour and tasting it was just tastings, which was fine. You got 2 or 3 tastings at each winery by the end you needed a DD, this was fun but nothing special, by having the tasting coupons you saved about $7.00/ person at each winery.

Dinner at Remington's Steak House - you needed a reservation for this which they did not tell us when we booked. We were able to get into a 7:00 pm seating. The best part of the dinner was the shuttle back and forth to the hotel. The restaurant was very crowded not fine dining at all everyone in there had a voucher and they were cranking the food out. However the staff was very friendly we even had a singing bartender. If you like a good steak, don't order it here, I would recommend the chicken or prime rib. This was almost a fast food steak house, our bill said it was a $30 meal, I would have been very upset if I spent $30 on that meal. But for a meal included with a night stay it was fine.

Breakfast at Appleby's - this was good, a good variety lots of food, it's breakfast hard to get it wrong.

We did not do the Seneca Casino, (we forgot our passports) or the Chocolate Tour, this had to be booked, again the staff did not tell us that.

Overall - A nice cheap (for Niagara Falls) get away. Don't go thinking you are getting a great hotel and meal for a cheap price, you are getting an okay hotel and meal for an okay price. Would I do it again - probably not, Do I regret doing it - no, we enjoy ourselves.

Room Tip: We upgraded for a king Jacuzzi room for $30, skip the Jacuzzi it was a tub beside the toilet but go...

We had a wagjag voucher to stay here and I would say we got about what we paid for. The rooms were fine, the hotel was fine. They arrived to clean our room by 9am on Saturday morning which was too early in my opinion. We had bad weather and wanted to just stay in the room but all tv is pay per view - thank goodness for free wifi and Netflix (on our own tablet).

Room Tip: The higher rooms would give you a better view of the falls.

we stayed at the Oakes hotel on April 20,2013. Beautiful room at the start of our trip. Gorgeous view of the falls. The longer we stayed. the worse it got. Suppose to be 2 queen beds. Instead got a king bed and a pull-out couch. We were fine with that. Our son likes to sleep on a pull-out. And that was extemely uncomfortable. Could feel the springs through the matress.Ouch!!!
The bed didn't have a fitted sheet on it. Just a flat sheet tucked into the matress. So that obviously came out. Only 2 pillows. Had to get more pillows sent up to the room. So thin you could see through them. TV in main room broken. The colour was really bad. Definetly needs an update there. Shower was nice except when I was showering the pipes were making weird noises. Overall very disappointed. Won't stay here again. Also for a hotel that size there wasn't nearly enough parking. Really hard to find a spot. Only thing we really enjoyed was the jacuzzi tub. But it did take about an hour to fill. Very low water pressure.

At the last minute, we decided to make a side trip on our way home to see Niagara Falls. The weather wasn't good though, so we decided to get a hotel room overlooking the Falls. I looked at reviews of hotels on my phone which brought us to this hotel. We splurged and chose a king jacuzzi room with a view of the Falls. It was beautiful! The room was larger than we expected. It had a sitting area when we first walked into the room with a sofa bed & TV. The bathroom was also quite large with a 2 person jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double sinks. The bedroom area was also quite large with another TV, desk, comfy chair and a very comfortable king bed. The best feature was the very large picture window overlooking the Falls. We were on the 12th floor. The hotel had a connected Applebee's Restaurant. We showed our room key and received a 10% discount off of our meal. We would absolutely stay here again!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the Falls!

Had a nice package with dinner for two at Remington's Steakhouse, breakfast included both mornings and $$ for the casinos. Stayed up late the first night and was out and about the next day. Went back to take a rest about 2pm to find our room had not been touched. Just asked for some new towels and skip the new bedding as a nap sounded better than new sheets at that time. Beds are kind of soft and they could use new pillows as well as newer TV's. As we were checking out, I wanted to fill our cooler for the ride home. Ice machines were only on even (2, 4, 6 etc.) floors. Went to the second floor and it was not next to the pop machine as it was on the 6th floor. Went to the 4th floor and asked this nice housekeeper if there was an ice machine on the floor. She escorted me to it and on the floor was an out of order sign. Told her about no ice machine on 2 and she again escorted me to that one. Down the hall, way past the pop machine with no sign telling anyone where it was. It was a commercial type with loads of ice but NO scoop or way to get ice out. I did tell the front desk as I left. Hopefully this can be dealt with.
