i stay in the Falls area annually to do my bicycle ride along the river. In the past 10-12 years, I have mostly stayed in some of the cheapest motels along Lundy's Lane, though i have stayed in the main stream hotels in downtown numerous times also, Therefore, i am very familiar with what i would get for my money, and what my expectation is with regard to the hotels/motels and their accommodations.
i have decided to try out Ramada by the River since it has received very good reviews by Tripadvisor readers, . My conclusion: it is a very clean and decent hotel for what you pay for, and by the Falls standard, it is probably no different from the four to even five star hotels in the downtown area. My rating is not exaggerating from my point of view since all the hotels in the Falls are below par comparing to the big cities such as Toronto or New York City.
The Ranada Inn is located on the North side of the Falls, and the downtown area. If you are planning to hang around the downtown to easily gain access to the fast food joints and the casino, it is the wrong choice. It is not truly within walkable distance from the actions. If your plan is just to spend half to a day in the down town area and the Falls, but for the remaining time of your stay for another day or two in the general surrounding area, you would like to visit the conservatory, the butterfly museum, the forte and eventually the north end where the wine route and Niagara On The Lake is, this may be just the perfect place as it is located in a quieter area, and closer in proximity of the above mentioned places. Best of all, it is significantly cheaper for the same quality of the better hotels.
There is only a pancake house restaurant in the hotel, so you have limited choice for dinner and lunch. However, you can always drive to downtown where all the restaurants are, the distance would be 1 mile and half or so.
Parking is NOT free however, it costs $14 CAD a night, though you have in and out privilege. The parking is the only thing that bothers me, otherwise, i would even rate this Ramada Inn 4.5, in terms of its cleanliness, and the facility as a whole.
This was a very nice hotel. Check-in was easy, location was convenient, and room was very clean. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in town. The $14 parking fee is a little excessive, but I guess it's normal for all hotels in town.
We checked in, went up to our room and had to wait for the cleaning person to finish. Awkward to wait in the hallway or go back down to the lobby. Front desk staff were sincerely lacking in manners and professionalism. The room was not particularly clean but as we were only spending one night we made the best of it. Noisy location in the hotel not far from elevators and vending machines. I'd skip it if you could as it costs as much as far better hotels in the area.
