Thriftlodge Niagara Falls at the Falls
Ranked #66 of 128 Hotels in Niagara Falls
Reviewed May 6, 2012

We stayed here on a Saturday night. The location is excellent and many attractions including the Niagara Falls are very close. There are lots of good eating places near by.

If you are not into Karaoke you will feel the experience too noisy. The noise continues well into night. The wash basins were very low straining ones's back. There were several problems with bathroom but they were promptly fixed.

We were told Travelodge next door would have been a better option for us. May be next time, but we wont be going to the Thriftlodge again in a hurry.

Free parking in Clifton Hill is a great advantage and the staff was extremely responsive and friendly and that is probably why I am not giving this place 1 star.

Stayed in this dump for one night, Sept 3 2011. We arrived late in the evening and booked these rooms from our cell phone sight unseen, our mistake. It was the first motel we called with a vacancy, we called about 10 different ones. The room cost us 249.00 for two double beds. Carpets were dirty, the room stunk, the paneling was falling off the walls and there was a beer gardens with kareokee in the motel parking lot. 249.00 dollars for a crappy room, loud music, and no sleep. Not real good value. The next day the same room was 72.00 dollars, i called the motel after we had checked out, end of weekend so the price dropped. I would not recommend this motel to my worse enemy, stay away.

Room Tip: Do not book sight unseen.

This hotel is party central. You are up until 2-2:30 am because of the karaoke bar in the parking lot of the hotel. Our bed had a board under it because the box spring was broken and it had a indention in the mattress so I kept rolling towards my husband all night! Taking a shower was an ordeal. You set your taps and then turn on the water nothing but cold...it seemed you were battling everyone else for the hot water. The only good thing is that you are central for all the sites and Tim Horton's was right across the street! If I had to do it again I would definitely pay the extra dollars and stay in a better, less noisier place!

Great value if you are like us and just looking for a base during your visit to the Falls. The rooms were a little dated - especially the bathroom but more importantly for us the bathroom and the beds were clean. We didn't see the hotel staff apart from check-in and check-out so can't really comment on the service, they were though welcoming and friendly when we did speak to them.
One thing though, that I think is worthy of mention, is the noise from the karaoke bar next door, which is in all reality in the hotel carpark. We had to sign a waiver at check-in to say that we wouldn't complain about the noise, even though this was the first time that the company had told us that there would be excessive noise during the night. I did enquire if we could though still complain about the quality of the singing but apparently you can't, which was just as well!!!
If you are a light sleeper, then this hotel probably isn't for you unless you have good quality earplugs or sleeping tablets! If on the other hand you are looking for a economical, comfortable place to stay and can sleep through anything or intend on enjoying the nightlife then this is definately worth a try.

You are right in the center of any place you want to go. Excellent Front Desk staff, housekeeping service. Walking distance to the Falls, Casino, Entertainment, and don’t forget to visit the Keg Steakhouse, you will love it. Also you have to cross the Rainbow Bridge to visit Niagara Falls New York. Only 10 to 15 minutes walking from the Hotel. Remember your Passport. You will see the other part from the Niagara Falls, beautiful.

First, I'll need to say that the purpose of this review is not to complain about our stay but rather give the factual knowledge that is not evidently present when making your resevation.
We reserved two nights non-smoking accommodation for this hotel through www.travelodge.ca in June 2008 and have been very excited to visit Niagara Falls for the first time. Upon arrival, we found out that there is a karaoke bar right in the middle of Thriftlodge premises (and I mean like literally 30 feet away from the windows and doors!). The attendant made us sign a waiver that we acknowledge and agree to the noise. We asked him if we can cancel the reservation to search for another hotel and he said with a smile: "Sure you can but you'll need to pay one night fee since you didn't notify us 24 hours in advance". Wow, that's a nice corporate catch that you have to watch out for! I guess that now you have to be either telepathic or simply use Google Earth to check the reserved hotel area for possible causes of disturbance. "Fine", we thought, "let's see how we can sleep through that, since we have already pre-paid our reservation and don't want to lose our money." Well, the karaoke and the whole parking lot area by the hotel was filled with loud drunken voices until 2 AM - it's the entertainment district of Clifton Hill, after all. This karaoke goes until 2 AM every single day of the week! Nowhere on the Travelodge website there is a warning about this "family-unfriendly" drinking establishment that would most definitely prevent you and your family from falling asleep until it becomes quiet at 2 AM. So, there's a good reason for you to think twice about staying in this hotel. Make sure that you take your best earplugs and prescription sleeping pills in order to sleep as the rowdy voices will try to make you stay awake. Unless, of course, if you are on your way to join the drunken karaoke band of Clifton Hill. Our neighbors in the room next door have been drinking beer, smoking heavily, singing-along and shouting until 6 AM right outside their room where they had put the chairs for socializing and we had to ask them repeatedly throughout the night to keep it quiet. Probably we should have called the police on them but hey, it's Clifton Hill, so you have to put up with this kind of behavior there. In the morning we did end up calling the police due to the conflict with these now-hungover neighbors but that's another story. So, if you need a good night sleep and have your kids nice and calm - consider another hotel outside of this area. This stay has taught us a good lesson and now we'll definitely call to other hotels prior to reservation in order to find out if they are in the quiet neighborhood.
