On a suggestion from a friend, we decided to go to Manchurian Madurai.

The name sounded appeasing to me ( I didnt read up about the restaurant as I wanted to be pleasantly surprised..). Going by the name, I was expecting a combination of Chinese and South Indian food - and I love both the cuisines...! However it turned out that it was Chinese and Indian (big difference between Indian and South Indian food).

Anywas, walking into the place, I was pleasantly surprised to see a well maintained decor with heavy set furniture and dim lighting. This perked me up as the ambience was certainly much better than the average Indian outlet in Toronto.

The food however it turned out to be just about average. It didnt help that the restaurant was understaffed on that particular day. But it didnt make sense as it was a Saturday evening.

Being a veg, we ordered the veg chowmein, gobi manchurian, veg jhalfrezi and garlic naan. The best thing about the food was the naan - crisp, hot and fresh. The gobi manchurian was the next best thing but it didnt have the zing. The veg jhaalfrezi didnt really have any "jhaal" / spice in it and the chowmein was the worst of the lot. It is still sitting in my fridge (and there is no sign of it moving any time soon except for the organic bin) as we left most of it untouched.

at the end of the meal, i got a sense that there may have been a time when this place was something special but it now remains as may be a shadow of it..

This Boat Restaurant is great if you like Chinese & Indian food. They also have a Banquet Room with Buffet and a dance floor for parties. Loved the Chinese Chicken Fried Rice and Tandoori Chicken.

Absolutely no concept of customer service. Very slow.
Food - We ordered Veg Manchurian Chowmein. No where close to what you get at restaurants on Airport and Derry. Not sure if they have cook from China or North India or South India. The owner seems to be from South India.
Spicy Fish - some frozen fish in tomato sause. No at all good.
They advertised on Deal find, but do no like honouring what's on that promotion...seems like they are not busy and unhappy with deal find promotion.
Their menu says 13% gratuity for groups of 6 or more, but they charged us 13% for group of 4 and forced us to pay.
