“A One Night Stopover”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We stayed here for one evening June 8, 2013. We were in a suite on the fourth floor which was clean and was not one of the rooms that had been recently renovated. The two televisions were the old (not flat screen) models. On check in I noticed that the front desk employees do not wear name tags. Also, they did not ask about any car details. Before we arrived I noticed the website indicated each suite has an in room safe. Also, the booklet in the room advised there was a safe in each suite. There was no safe. We called the front desk and were told "the safe is in the closet".
We checked both closets, no safe. Went to the from desk and advised them of this. They advised they would make a note of this. The room was quiet, the mattress was comfortable. On the morning of our departure our keys would not operate our door lock so we could not enter our room. After replacing one of our key cards, which still did not work, a staff member had to bring a master key to enter the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which has been renovated

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment about your stay with us. We have spoken to the Front Desk regarding the safe not being in this suite and will respond immediately to correct this problem. We apologize for this, and for the room card not working. We were having a few issues with our room card machine but this has been fixed. We hope you will stay with us again soon --we have great rates all summer long with our Summer Sizzler Sale.
Again, thank you for your feedback.

My husband and I, both seniors, had occasion to be overnight in Toronto. We chose the Ramada because of the excellent reviews and the location close to the venue we were attending. Also a great location just off of the 401 Highway with easy access to and from. What a wonderful choice it was! We booked a non-smoking King Suite and requested one of the newly appointed rooms. We were not disappointed as it was perfect! The room was spacious with a separate sitting area (Queen Size Sleeper Couch) and a 2nd TV. We loved the fact that there was a restaurant/bar area on site that we could go to once returning to the Hotel. The friendly and accommodating staff there helped make our stay perfect. On site there was a pool and hot tub....great pool for kids with a gigantic slide. I understand that there is also an exercise area although I didn't look for it this trip. I understand that they host children's birthday parties there for about $22.00 per child. Not sure what it all includes but if you are looking for something special for your child, this might be a great option. Lots of free parking available. Breakfast was available in the restaurant for an extra fee. McDonald's is within walking distance if one was so inclined! I also understand that they run a shuttle service to the airport. The only down side was that unfortunately only one elevator was working and we were on the 11th floor....thus long waits coming and going. We'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a newly renovated room. They are just like the pictures on their web site. Perfect!!

Thank you very much for your wonderful comments about Ramada Plaza Stage West Hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and truly appreciate your sharing your positive experience with others!
Our Splash Parties are a terrific idea for birthday parties! With the booking of a day room, children and parents can enjoy our 3 storey waterslide and saltwater pool and then have a lunch including birthday cake in Larry's Restaurant. How fun is that? Kids love it- parents love it!
Thanks again for your great comments and we hope to see you here again very soon.

Not as close to the airport as most would like I think, but Air Canada put us up there when we missed out connections, so that's just the luck of the draw, and I'd not stayed there before. We arrived as a parcel of people from various missed flights, and the driver was keen and had a good heavy foot in getting us from the airport to the hotel too. It was near midnight checking in, but the restaurant was long closed, and food unavailable. The front desk was named by a lonely 'night auditor' unaccustomed to getting slammed, but he did a wonderful job of getting us all rushed in and some were past grumpy and blaming everything from the weather to God for their troubles. The room I had was nicely done, comfortable, quiet(ish) for Toronto, but the fridge in the room made some odd noises and I couldn't get at any outlets too unplug it. I left back to the airport at 4:30AM, and it would have been nice to have a coffee/muffin bar at the desk like many do 24/7.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a quiet room as they do have units that are not in such a good location.

Thank you for taking the time to post comments regarding your stay with us. We appreciate your taking the time to do so as it helps us to improve. Understandably, dealing with several delayed passengers would be a handful with limited staff on duty but we are pleased to hear that you were accommodated in a timely manner. We also thank you for your suggestion of the coffee and muffins and will be discussing this idea to see if it can be incorporated. We hope you will choose to stay with us again and take advantage of our Summer Sizzler Sale with terrific room rates all summer long.

We used to take the kids to see a play at the attached theatre. They had good deals, especially since the swimming pool has a slide, BUT, yikes, we had to leave the hotel right after checking in because of the smells. They tried to mask smoke with a strong smelling cleaner. My throat was burning! We have never had to leave a hotel before. Ask if the slide is working before checking in and good luck! If eating at the restaurant, order the prime rib, it's great. I recommend just going to the hotel for a meal. Do not get suckered in by the great prices, you really get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Be prepared to ask for a different room if it smells or isn't clean. There are no great views.

First, in the interest of full disclosure, we got this hotel through a Priceline bid, and hotels tend not to give the best rooms to low bidders. That said, when we arrived, our reservation was quickly found by the desk clerk (who eventually emerged from a back room somewhere). The room turned out to be a non-smoking (thank goodness!) queen suite, but we prefer a king bed so we asked for an upgrade, which was quickly accomplished for a $15 added charge...we haven't seen the credit card bill yet, but we think from some comments by a different clerk when we checked out that the extra charge was ultimately waived.

The suite was decent, but a bit worn...maybe NOT one of the renovated rooms? This is not to say that things were disgustingly shabby, but an inch of paint was chipped off the bottom of the bathroom door, for example. On the good side, the sofa, which could be folded out into another bed, was comfortable, as was the chair in the "living" area of the suite. The TV in the living area was a new flat-screen, but the TV in the "bedroom" area was an old-style CRT type; both functioned well. The climate control was set to "Antarctica" when we arrived, but was easily adjusted for a more comfortable temperature (which was achieved quickly).

The bathroom was well lit and the light and exhaust fan were on separate switches...a boon to those who must make trips in the wee hours and don't want to wake up their partners with a howling fan that comes on with the light. Since the only sink is in the bathroom, the complimentary coffee machine is also located there...one of the one-cup devices that uses the pre-measured pods. The supplied coffee was drinkable, but nothing to write home about, which is why I'm writing about it here. I have to mention the toilet: After flushing, the tank filled in "bursts" until the tank was full...we assumed that it was possessed by demons!

About the light switch/exhaust fan problem in some hotels (but not this one)...we've taken to carrying a small plug-in nightlight with us so that there is no need to turn on the bathroom light in the wee hours. Not only does it solve the howling exhaust fan problem, it also preserves one's night vision so that finding the bed again isn't such an "adventure."

The smallish clothes closet consists of two sliding doors with full length mirrors...one of which doors I had to fix because it was off the track. There is a small safe in the closet for valuables which we did not use. Next to the closet and set into the wall near the bed is a small and nicely lit alcove with a mirror where one can adjust a necktie or apply makeup without commandeering the bathroom.

Our first impression of the bed was that it was just another example of the "concrete is better" school of hotel mattress philosophy, but we actually found it more comfortable than we expected and slept quite well for the two nights we were there. On the other hand, the bed was initially made up with one thin blanket, though there was another one stashed in the clothes closet, presumably for the fold-out sofabed. Unfortunately, that blanket had seen better days, which is not to say that it wasn't functional, but there were several obvious holes and a couple of stains of indeterminate origin that were in evidence.

There is a microwave and small refrigerator in the room, both of which worked well, though the clock on the microwave was not set...we reset it. Not a necessity, but it's the little things that move a rating from four dots to three, y'know? Like the free wi-fi...we tried both mornings we were there to access the wi-fi only to find that it was non-functional; on the first morning, we called and asked the front desk for an ethernet cable (to use the wired Internet...since there was no cable in the room as the information book stated), but it was never delivered. Wi-fi returned the first afternoon, but was gone again the next morning.

In all, we've been in far worse places, but we've been in better places, too, and the comparison here isn't favorable. We'd stay here again, but probably only as a result of a Priceline bid where there is no choice. We think it's somewhat overpriced for what it is, especially with no included breakfast.

A group of 5 women booked this hotel and the theatre this past Friday evening as we have stayed here a few years ago. We noted the posters in the lobby showing beautiful updated rooms. Unfortunately, ours wasn't one of them. The toilet ran on incessantly and thankfully one of us knew how to open the tank and fix it, the hairdryer didn't work, and there were actual burn marks of an iron in the carpet; the windows were dirty. This room had definitely seen better days. We told the staff about this and a quick "sorry" was offered and nothing else. Our package included wine and cheese tray. We had to call twice to remind them to send this up. We asked for additional towels shortly after checking in and had to call back later in the evening to get them. We did enjoy the hot tub and the dinner show was excellent; the morning buffet was average. If you are booking - be sure to ask for an updated room. If one isn't available, I suggest you book elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room!

Our family has been attending Stage West dinner theatre for almost 20 years, and loved it, so we finally decided to purchase a season subscription for my husband and I. The first two shows of the subscription were entirely enjoyable, especially Fiddler on the Roof (they BEST production I've seen there to date)For Mothers day, I was excited and looking forward to seeing Avenue Q, as listed on my invoice, at the time of purchase. Imagine my surprise, when they switched out this number one Broadway Hit for a mediocre show called "Game Show" which was definitely NOT something I would have purchased. To top it all off, we were never informed that there would be a change in venue. What a Mothers Day disappointment. I didn't think they could just do this without letting us know via email, which they have. Shame on you, Stage West!

Thank you for your comments. We are very sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the show. We have had some wonderful feedback with regards to "Game Show" but do understand that it may not meet the likes of everyone. Several months back notification was sent out that the show was being changed. We are disappointed that you seem not to have received that notification and apologize for any inconvenience.
