Met a friend for lunch. We split the tempura maki rolls (which I have every single time I visit the Black Trumpet). Super tasty and flavourful and I'd recommend them to anyone. Big enough portion to split between two people since you get 8 rolls to an order. Tried the butternut squash soup which was one of the best I've ever had anywhere and went perfectly with the bread that each table receives. The soup was piping hot and just really delicious. Everything from the service, drinks and food was top notch. Probably has one of the most lovely patios of any restaurant in London. If you haven't been, give it a try.

“Great atmosphere in the courtyard!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Located in the downtown area of London, the Black Trumpet offers a good variety for lunch with an outdoor patio, courtyard setting. Vegetarian options and unique offerings on the menu. Prompt service and fair pricing. Well worth the visit. Something out of the ordinary without pretence. Let's of seating but book ahead on weekends.

“Very Happy”
Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

Came here for a special occasion. We looked around the London area for a place to have a great dinner and break down some good news to the family. All the arrangements were made over the phone. We were able to reserve one of the private rooms upstairs. The staff was excellent they made sure we got everything we wanted including some flexibility with the set menu.

From the moment we got there we felt the warmth and the great service from the staff. The appetizers, meals and desserts were timed perfectly. The whole family was very happy and enjoyed the food. Our waitress went above and beyond and was more than excellent. I wish I could remember her name to give her her due credit. They made us feel special and that made our family time and event memorable and priceless. Thank you Black Trumpet and staff.

“Where do I start?”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We wanted to treat our university son to a great meal and everything I read on line suggested that the Black Trumphet was the best dining in London. While the restaurant is very warm, contemporary and inviting, the food is lousy. The calamari appetizer is tasteless and skimpy (5 tiny rolled up pieces in a watery tasteless sauce). If you're used to ordering calamari you will be quite dissapointed. The duck spring rolls were okay. Rack of lamb is just so so. Polenta was too hard. Seared tuna was overdone and I fear the fish was not the freshest. Jasmine rice was tasteless and glutinous and the bok choy salad on the side was really bland and wilted. We didn't stay for dessert. The service was very friendly and professional.

“Our new favorite”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Still fairly new to the city, we've managed to try about a dozen finer restaurants in the city over the past year. We have a new favorite, the Black Trumpet. We went on a Saturday evening, a belated Valentine's dinner, and were immediately impressed with the service and the ambience of the restaurant. Seated very quickly, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu, both food and wine lists. The appetizers, maki rolls and squash soup were very impressive, amongst the best we've ever had. For entrees, we had the Duck and Bowtie pasta, and again, the flavors were rich and appealing. Desserts marked the only "average" part of the meal, nothing wrong with the caramel pecan pie or chocolate brownie, just not quite as delectable as the other courses. Paired with a fine Pinot Noir, this proved to be the best dining experience we've had in London thus far, and will be back.
