Having spent a few months in Portugal each of the last few years, I was delighted while visiting London to find this particular restaurant. It is not in an easy area to find, a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip. It is a simple family style place, immaculate and cozy and our overall experience was exceptional.
The staff and owner were friendly, great conversations and excellent service.
The menu includes a home made soup and the salad bar with each entree and the portions are more than generous. The home made chicken soup was tasty, not at all salty and quite flavourful.
I searched the menu for an octopus salad and didn't find one. When I asked our server she didn't bat an eye but simply said, "You want, one, we make you one".....and they did!!! It was tender, the octopus quickly grilled and served warm with diced onions, chopped egg, and a lovely vinaigrette. What a treat!
I had carne de porco a Alentejana (traditional pork and clams). The taste was amazing, very authentic to my Portuguese experiences and the home made crisp fried potatoes served with it were delicious. My dining partner had the Frango no Churrasco (Portuguese style bbq chicken) served with rice and thinly fried potato...both delicious. She was unable to finish all the food and ended up taking enough home for yet another meal.
Although dessert was included, we were both stuffed and unable to taste any.
Our overall experience was very gratifying. The only reason I give it four instead of five is that the clams were overcooked and disappointing but, in the scheme of things that was not a deterrent to going back.
