“Lovely Hotel....don't go when hockey tournament is on if you want a quiet evening.”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

We have been to this Hotel a couple of times to attend weddings. One of them we stayed the night. The room was lovely and the bed was comfortable. That was an amazing stay. Recently we stayed one night for our once a year 'romantic overnight getaway'. When we made the reservation i had indicated that we were wanting a quiet romantic night. The receptionist was very helpful and did indicate that there was a hockey tournament on and that it could get a bit noisey so she would upgrade us to the honeymoon suite which was supposed to be a quieter area. We thought that was very thoughtful. Check In was very friendly, courteous, and efficient. The honeymoon suite was absolutely amazing! The bedding was exquizite and the whirlpool tub and fireplace were exactly what we needed. We both work long hours and don't get a lot of time just the two of us with peace and quiet. We went down to the bar and shared an appetizer and each had a glass of wine. The waitress was very friendly and the bar was nice. We went out and had an amazing romantic dinner togeather and then back to the Hotel to have a glass of wine and enjoy a quiet evening. This was not to be....this is when the hockey kids started running up and down the hallways yelling and playing and slamming room doors. This went on till late at night. We thought this was supposed to be the quiet part of the hotel but it was not. We did not call the front desk because quite honestly...were they going to be able to stop a herd of kids from running all over the hotel? We did peek out the door at one point and asked one of the parents if they could maybe keep it down and the response was a very snotty...we paid for a room here and the kids can do whatever they please because they need to blow off a little energy. Well why were they not doing that at the pool and water slide??? Having that response we knew management would not have been able to do anything. The Hotel itself and its services and rooms are definately outstanding. We would definately go back again..but lesson learned....if you want a quiet nite togeather ask first if there is a hockey tournamnet on. It is not the Hotels fault. This would be the parents who need to keep their kids under control in a public place. Have some consideration for other people staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Honeymoon suite is exquisite.

Dear ntlch06,

Thank you for your recent review on Trip Advisor.

Let me start off by apologizing that your most recent stay was not comparable to your past stays here at the Lamplighter.

We did have a few hockey teams in the hotel over the weekend. While we do our best to keep them all together, unfortunately with the layout of the hotel it does not always work out that way.
During our Fall/Winter hockey season we bring in a Police Officer to help keep order within the hotel. We do ask that if at any time you feel the noise levels are high or you have kids in the hallways that you call the Front Desk so we are aware and can send the Police Officer to that area to clear it out. With the presence of Police, things quieten down really fast and people return to their rooms.

My apologies for your encounter with one of the parents and their rude remark to you. Unfortunately there are those who forget they are not the only ones staying at the hotel and ruin other people’s stays. If we had of known of this situation, things could have been very different and it may have been another great stay for you.

I am glad you enjoyed your room, the upgrade, and the service you were provided during your stay. Clean comfortable rooms and great service is what we strive for. It’s what keeps bringing our guest’s back.

While I am not pleased about the night turned out for you, I am pleased that you still consider returning to the Lamplighter because you have stayed in the past and know this does not occur regularly.

We hope next time you are planning another getaway or are in the area you will stay with us again. We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Dear Janice S,

Thank you for placing your review on Trip Advisor.

You are right; it was the Carousel back in the day. A lot of people remember when it was the Carousel because of the rounded glass front windows in the restaurant. And a lot has changed with the property since then.

The hotel has grown into a very large facility over the years. You would never know how big the property is by looking at it from the outside. The hotel has 3 wings of bedrooms built in the shape of a horseshoe. In the center is the atrium. The atrium is what everyone talks about. It is a large area enclosed under a retractable glass roof. It holds an indoor pool, hot tub, waterslide, fitness room, and Gazebo bar and a nice meeting area to relax with friends and family. All the while you are surrounded by lush tropical plants and flowers, waterfalls and a koi pond full of gigantic koi. It’s a year round tropical oasis!

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. From clean rooms to great value in the restaurant I know from your review we did a great job!

We hope next time you are in the area you will visit us again.

Sincerely,

My Daughter got married at the Best Western September 2012. She had the ceremony in the Atrium, and the reception in the Regency Ballroom, about 190 guests.

Everything was fantastic. The Staff could not have been more accommodating during the planning process and the day of the wedding. The meal was excellent, wait staff were great.

They set up the atrium for the ceremony as planned, and it was beautiful. They accommodated everyone.....the Florist, Decorator, DJ and of course all our out of town guests.

We got so many compliments from our Family and Friends, it was just so amazing.

There was absolutely NOTHING we could complain about.....nothing.....

The whole experience working with all staff members was such a pleasure. They know how to bring it all together.

I would recommend this venue for a wedding, meeting, etc. Definitely highly recommend!

Dear Ontime2K,

Thank you for your fantastic review on Trip Advisor.

Let me start off by saying Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding!

Weddings are very popular in the atrium at the hotel. Surrounded by a tropical oasis and enclosed under a retractable glass roof, the weather is never a worry. A lot of people will also have their wedding photos taken in the atrium.

I am thrilled to hear everything thing went off perfectly before during and after the wedding. Our staff strive for excellence and from your review they succeeded in this.

I will be sure to show this review to all departments within the hotel to let them know they did an amazing job.

Thank you again for your review.

This is a great hotel to stay at while in London.
It is close to everything that one needs. Close to shopping, food and highways.
We were upgraded to the King suite overlooking the atrium. This was an excellent room.
The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and the room was very quiet.
Just what one wants after a day of travel.
I highly recommend this as a great hotel.

Dear crazee4trains,

Thank you for your recent review on Trip Advisor.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Lamplighter.

We are centrally located between the downtown area and the 401. It’s the perfect location. You avoid the busy downtown area and have easy access to the 401 when needed. We are surrounded by restaurants, shopping, and great walking trails and parks.

The King Suites are a popular choice. It’s nice to have a private living room area away from the bedroom to relax. Our atrium view rooms are well insulated for noise from the atrium. As long as your doors are closed you won’t hear anything.

All staff do their part in keeping the hotel clean. We want you to feel as comfortable as you would at home.

Thank you again for your review. We hope that the next time you are in the area you will return to the Lamplighter.

Sincerely,

We stayed 1 night (Sat) after the family dinner party. The pool area is terrific for the kids and a room on the atrium is a must with children. The rooms were clean and spacious enough for the one night. We did find the room a little poorly lit but not objectionable.
The hotel in general is exceptionally clean throughout.
We arrived early on Sat and our rooms were ready so we thought the kids could get a quick swim before dinner but the area was closed temporally for a wedding. I little inconvenient but understandable. The atrium was opened once the wedding service was completed.
I would recommend this hotel for a family staying in the London area.

Dear rbkbwick,

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor.

I am glad to hear you and your family enjoyed your stay at the Lamplighter.

The atrium is our greatest feature at the hotel. All enclosed under a retractable glass roof, it boasts an indoor pool, waterslide, hot tub and more. The atrium is perfect for everyone, no matter what their age is. Atrium view rooms are the most popular. Whether it be a walk out patio or balcony, everybody seems to enjoy the view.

The staff at the Lamplighter take pride in where they work. Every department does their part in keeping the hotel clean. We want you to feel as comfortable as you would in your own home.

The lighting in the guest rooms do tend to be a little on the dim side at first. All of our rooms use energy efficient light bulbs so at first it may seem dim but they do get brighter the longer they are on.

The atrium is a very popular place in London to hold your Wedding. We do close the pool area during that period of time. It is usually a time that does not interfere with the guests in the Hotel. It is after check out but before check in. While the ceremony is in progress, the pool area is cleaned and towels replenished for the return of guests. Once the ceremony is over, the pool is reopened.

Thank you again for your review. We hope you will stay with us again when in London.

Sincerely,

I was at this hotel for a hockey tournament along with 16 other families. The rooms which faced the Atrium were fantastic - had a separate shower & Jacuzzi tub. several full length mirrors, 2 flat screen tv's, separated living room and bedroom...perfect for hockey players.
The pool area was beautiful - like a tropical oasis, large pool, waterslide, koi fish area, bar, all beautifully landscaped. The waterslide runs all night which drowns out any noise and the glass patio doors are double panes so the rooms are quiet. The Staff was wonderful. Our hockey team travels throughout the USA and Canada for tournaments and this was by far one of the best. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. I have a bad back so this is very important to me.
We will definitely stay at this hotel if we return to London - I am already telling friends and family if they ever visit the area to stay here.

Room Tip: Pick a room which faces the pool - you will love it. The ground floor is a perfect spot if you have...

Dear ConnorMC6,

Thank you for your recent review on Trip Advisor.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your weekend here at the Lamplighter.

Your room description tells me you stayed in the King Suite. These rooms are very popular due to the dividing doors that give you some privacy. All of the rooms in the hotel have been professionally designed with our traveller’s in mind.

The atrium is our greatest feature within the hotel. The atrium is enclosed under a retractable glass roof. It features an indoor pool, hot tub, waterside, Gazebo bar, koi pond and more all surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. No matter what the weather is like outside, the atrium always has a tropical feel to it.

The hotel rooms that face the atrium are insulated well for noise. As long as your patio doors are closed you can’t hear anything that may be going on in the atrium.

I am glad to hear all encounters with staff were wonderful during your stay.

We hope to see you again the next time you are in London.

My wife and I stayed here in the middle of September and were pleasantly surprised at the value we received and the comfort of the rooms. We were on the 2nd floor, overlooking the pool / atrium area, which turned out to be a great location. Our room was a small suite, with a separate living space and bedroom. The small fridge in the room was nice to have, and the bathroom was adequate. Flat screen televisions and free wifi (well done, Best Western - all hotel wifi should be free!!) were very nice touches.

I found most of the staff to be friendly and helpful, especially the cleaning staff who always greeted us with a friendly hello.

As for food and amenities, the pool is great for families and the atrium creates a really unique atmosphere. The gym is quite small, sporting just a few dated machines, but at least it's something. The onsite restaurant, Shelly's, offers a great breakfast deal for an amazing price ($4.99, I think). We enjoyed our breakfast, and couldn't argue with the value. We also had one dinner there, which was excellent, but the service (by a very friendly but seriously overworked waitress who had the whole restaurant to herself) was super slow.

The only real downside was the noise from the hall. There must have been a hockey tournament in town or something, as we heard groups of kids pounding down the hall all night. But that's it, really - overall, this was an excellent stay with a hotel that exceeded our expectations. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Dear Sky_Traveler,

Thank you for your Trip Advisor Review.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Lamplighter. It sounds by your description that you stayed in one of our King Suites. These suites tend to be very popular with families. With the dividing doors in the room, it gives you a little more privacy. All of our rooms are equipped with small fridges and flat screens. We are continually renovating within the Hotel to keep up with these nice touches. Yes, Wi-Fi is definitely free within the hotel for guest use.

The atrium is a spectacular site. Indoor pool, hot tub, waterslide and so much more all surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. Like you, most of our guests prefer to be atrium view during their stay.

Shelly’s Tap & Grill has a large menu with great specials running everyday. You are right, Shelly’s does offer a $4.99 breakfast Mon-Sat. My apologies for the slow service you received at dinner. I’m not sure as to why there was only 1 server in the restaurant. I will look into the situation further; there should always be more then 1 server on the floor. I am glad to hear you did enjoy the food and the value. That is what Shelly’s Tap & Grill is known for.

We do tend to get team/group bookings in the Hotel on weekends. We do put a limit of how many teams are staying in the hotel so our family, couples, and corporate guests can enjoy themselves as well. On busy weekends we bring in a Police Officer to secure the hotel. If the Front Desk is aware of loud noise or people running the halls we send the Police Officer there to clear the halls immediately. We have found his presence to be positive one in that everyone enjoys their stay at the Lamplighter.

Thank you again for your review. We hope to see you soon next time you are in the area.

Sincerely,
