i once had my boyfriend drive me from hamilton to kingston because i wanted a hoagie that bad! its a family tradition of mine that whenever we are anywhere near kingston we detour and get ourselves 1 (or a second to go!). I count down the time until I get to go back. Its the best sandwich and nothing else compares. i will convert all my friends to go!
my dad grew up eating hoagies there and so will my daughter!

There were three locations, now only one just two blocks from my home. Before Subway came to town, it was dominant for its dish, but it has slipped out of people's thoughts and doesn't seem to advertise anymore. The formula hasn't changed, the subs are heavier on the stomach than Subway, but more indulgent in the ingredient choices. Subway is for healthy subs, but The Hoagie House is more for indulgence.

Located on Division Street, The Hoagie House is a local gem in Kingston's culinary landscape. ALL they do is hoagies, and all they offer is take-out (no in-restaurant seating), and that suits the regular customers just fine. The DOUBLE CHEESE STEAK hoagie is their most popular sandwich, with fried onions optional. (But really, you SHOULD get the fried onions, as they make the meat taste super-good.) One hoagie is enough for two adults (or one teenager), and likely one is enough for four small kids. You can phone ahead with your order (they make every hoagie fresh to order), and they will ask you what you want on the hoagie. I always omit the hot peppers, but the other choices are sliced onions, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, salt & pepper, fresh oregano salad oil (yum), sub sauce, mayo, mustard, ketchup, vinegar, etc. These hoagies must be eaten with the expectation of potentially messing up your clothing! They are exploding with ingredients, and this place is unique to Kingston so you are contributing directly to Kingston's economy when you buy these subs--not like the chains!

The building is old, and nothing fancy inside (bring cash-nothing else accepted), but the cooking premises are always spotless and the cooks (who are also your order takers) have mostly all worked there for many years.

If you do not phone ahead for your order (I recommend just going there and ordering directly, for the freshest possible sandwich), just got to the shop. It is an experience not to be missed, if you want a real taste of Kingston, where the locals eat. People drive from other cities to get hoagies from this place!

I will continue to buy food from this establishment for as long as they exist. They have a unique product, very fresh, portion size and prices are phenomenal, and there is never a long wait. Chain sub shops don;t hold a candle to the real McCoy.
