We pulled into Kingston as a group of 12 Aussies at 10.00pm at night and naturally as you do, we headed straight to the Merchant hoping for food.. Finding out that they serve food until 2.00am was a bonus for us as we had just done about 30 hrs of travelling... so we drank up big and enjoyed a few burgers etc.. the food is typical North American / Canadian pub food and nothing flash, but it was food.. the drinks are well priced and the place is generally always full on the main nights... its handy to most things, especially if you are staying at the Holiday Inn next door !!!

Ok, this no Aqua Terra, but for the price, it was not to bad. We were heading for a concert and every other restaurant was packed and so we went to the Merchant. They have a very simple menu (maybe 10 choices on the fast/finger food side) and to be honest, it wasn’t too bad. It would not be a destination restaurant, but I doubt that’s what they are going for. We had good food, good service, great price, So, that's a 4 outta five in my books! The atmosphere is dark and taverny and I like it. Great patio in the summer. Check out some of my food photo pics

The service is not great to say the least. The door guys are rude. I agree with all the past bad reviews of this place. Over crowded. No way this place doesn't get over capacity. Wall to wall people inside. Glad I was spitting outside

It's a little loud when there is live music. Menu has a good selection, but a little pricey for pub fair. Nice atmosphere.

Fantastic location, fantastic ambiance, fantastic food & drink, fantastic music. Been going to The Merchant Macliam (aka TapHouse) since it opened. One of THE best spots in Kingston.
